Against a backdrop of glorious sunshine, Wigan U19s took on Huddersfield U19s in a game rearranged from the start of the season and for Huddersfield the wait failed to have a good outcome as they tumbled to defeat.
Wigan went in front in the 16th minute with a try from Liam Forsyth with Nick Gregson converting for a 6-0 lead that was son extended to 12-0 when Liam Marshall crossed after a stunning dashing run with Gregson adding a second conversion.
Huddersfield reduced the deficit with a try from Liam Johnson just before the half-hour mark with a conversion from Jack Miller for 12-6 but Wigan battled back and regained their 12 point lead with a try from Jamie Doran added to by a Gregson conversion.
The second half saw Wigan begin with promise as they extended their lead with a try from David Thompson with a first miss from Gregson making it 22-6 before Rob Lever crossed for the hosts and Gregson made amends with the conversion for 28-6.
Huddersfield responded with a try for Canann Smithies with Miller converting successfully for 28-12 but three tries in 11 minutes from Wigan sealed the win as Ben Calland and Nick Gregson before Jamie Doran's second effort with all three converted by Gregson for 46-12.
The gloss was put on a superb performance by two further tries by McCauley Davies and Gabriel Fell with Gregson failing to add to his conversion tally meaning a 56-12 victory.
