2019 Women's Super League Round Nine Review

Round Nine opened at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle as Castleford Tigers Women extended their unbeaten run with a comfortable 56-8 win over Wigan Warriors Women. The Warriors opened the scoring with Rachel Thompson crossing for 4-0 before the Tigresses replied through Courtney Pointon for 4-4. The hosts went ahead with Sinead Peach and Kelsey Gentles crossing, Stanley converting once for 14-4. Cas were in control at the interval after a self-converted effort from Stanley was followed by a second Gentles score and a Hollie Dodd try with Georgia Roche converting before crossing for a try herself for 34-4. 

The spree continued on the hour with a second Stanley score and Roche conversion for 40-4 before with Tamzin Renouf extending the lead with a try which Stanley improved for 46-4.Lacey Owen touched down to bring up the half century before Gemma Walsh crossed for Wigan for 50-8. The final say went to the hosts as Peach claimed her second try with a fourth success for Stanley completing the 56-8 victory. 

Leeds Rhinos Women continued their good season with a 52-0 hammering of Featherstone Rovers Women. A perfect start for the Rhinos saw Fran Goldthorp and Tasha Gaines cross for tries inside six minutes with Courtney Hill converting both for 12-0. A self-converted effort from Hill saw a gap in the scoring before Ellie Oldroyd and Chloe Kerrigan crossed with Gaines converting twice for 30-0 into the interval.

The second half saw the Rhinos wrap up the win with four scores either side of the hour mark Madison Laverick crossing ahead of a self-converted Gaines try who then improved an effort from Caitlin Beevers before completing her hat-trick and a haul of four conversions in the 52-0 rout. 

St Helens Women kept up their hopes of top spot with a 34-18 win over Bradford Bulls Women at Odsal. Saints raced into a 14-0 lead with scores from Emily Rudge, Becca Rotherham and Channy Crowl with Faye Gaskin adding a single conversion. Rhianna Burke crossed before a self-converted score from Gaskin was followed by a Tara Jones effort with Gaskin kicking for a 30-0 half-time lead. 

The second half saw the Bulls get off the mark with scores from Amy Hardcastle, Sarah Dunn, Olivia Wood with Leah Jones converting the lot for 30-18 but it was Saints who had the final say with Burke claiming her second try to round off a 34-18 win. 

Round nine came to an end with York City Knights Ladies claiming a 20-4 over Wakefield Trinity Ladies. The Knights first win of the season came courtesy of a hat-trick from Alisha Clayton and score from Ashleigh Hyde with Sam Boyes converting twice, Trinity's solitary score came from Lisa Taylor. 

Womens Super League Round Eight Review

After last week's Challenge Cup final. league action resumed at round eight with only three games completed after the tie between Leeds Rhinos Women and York City Knights Ladies was abandoned at the interval after a serious injury to Sophie Robinson. 

The Rhinos led 30-0 at the time and likely the final score if the game is not replayed and they reached that lead with Sophie Nuttall, Hanna Butcher and Charlotte Booth all crossing for tries with Robinson notching a hat-trick, suffering the serious injury in the act of scoring her third. Courtney Hill converting thrice in the half.

Leaders Castleford Tigers Women eased to a 50-16 win over Bradford Bulls Women at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle. The Tigresses went ahead on 12 minutes with Georgia Roche crossing and Tara Stanley converting for 6-0 before Bradford hit back through Sarah Dunn with Leah Jones converting to level at 6 all. Stanley claimed a try of her own before Amy Hardcastle crossed for the Bulls with Jones kicking them into a 12-10 lead. The Tigresses battled back with a Rhiannon Marshall try ahead of Stanley's second with her converting both for 22-12. A double blow before the interval for the Bulls saw Debbie Smith sent off and Kelsey Gentles (Stanley conv) cross for 28-12 into the break.

The hosts took control with Olivia Grace and Sinead Peach crossing with Stanley converting the latter for 38-12. Bradford cut the gap with a second Dunn try but it was to be their last as Marshall and Grace completed braces with Stanley converting to take her total to seven successes with the boot at 50-16.

Wigan Warriors Women suffered an 18-16 loss to Featherstone Rovers Ladies with the hosts snatching the two points late on. Rovers opened the scoring with Andrea Dobson crossing and Katie Hepworth converting for 6-0 after 17 minutes. Wigan drew level just before the interval as Becky Greenfield crossed and Kate McMullan converted for 6 all.

The Warriors scored consecutive tries with Sarah Harrison racing over and McMullan kicking for 12-6 but Fev battled back with Grace Cotton going over but with no conversion the score was 12-10 The sides were level on 62 minutes with a Hepworth penalty goal but a Rachel Thompson try soon restored the lead for Wigan at 16-12, the missed conversion from McMullen was to prove crucial as with eight minutes to go, Hepworth crossed and converted to seal an 18-16 win.

The final game of the round saw St Helens stroll to a 60-0 demolition of Wakefield Trinity Ladies at Ruskin Park. A perfect start for the Saints saw Rhianna Burke cross in the opening minute for 4-0 before Beth Stott and Katie-May Williams crossed with Faye Gaskin converting the latter for 14-0. The lead stretched to 26-0 at the interval after tries from Emily Rudge and Vicky Whitfield were converted by Gaskin. 

Saints spree resumed just five minutes after the restart as Rudge claimed her second try ahead of a Tara Jones score with Gaskin on target with both conversions for 38-0. Rudge completed her hat-trick before Eboni Partington went over and with Gaskin converting just once the lead became 48-0. The 50 point mark came as Rudge claimed her fourth score with the scoring all done by the 64th minute as Chantelle Crowl went over with Gaskin ending the afternoon with eight successes with the boot for 60-0.

2019 Super League Round 25 Review

Round 25 opened with the top two facing off on Thursday night as St Helens wrapped up a 30-12 win over Warrington Wolves.The Wolves flew out if the blocks with Jake Mamo crossing for the opening score inside two minutes for 4-0. Saints responded with tries from Kevin Naiqama and Jonny Lomax with Danny Richardson converting twice for 12-8 either side of a Josh Thewlis score for the hosts, the Wolves went into the interval just 12-10 behind after a Stefan Ratchford penalty goal.

Saints took just four minutes of the second half to reply with Joseph Paulo crossing, Richardson kicking for 18-10 before a second Ratchford penalty goal cut the gap to 18-12. Saints took control with scores from Matty Costello and Tommy Makinson, Richardson converting both to reach five successes in a 30-12 win.

In attendance on Friday night at the DW Stadium as Wigan Warriors claimed a 36-18 win over Hull Kingston Rovers. Wigan struck first with George Wiiliams crossing inside five minutes with Zak Hardaker converting for 6-0 before the Robins responded with a self-converted try from Ryan Shaw to level at 6 all. The hosts regained the lead with a Liam Marshall score which Hardaker improved for 12-6 before Ben Crooks replied for Rovers with Shaw converting for 12 all into the interval.

The sides exchanged scores after the restart with Liam Farrell (Hardaker conv) and Josh Drinkwater (Shaw conv) for 18-18 before three tries in 15 minutes ensured victory for Wigan as Burgess and Tony Clubb touched down ahead of a second Farrell score seeing Hardaker end the night with a perfect six with the boot for 36-18.

Leeds Rhinos boosted their survival hopes with a comfortable 48-8 victory over Catalans Dragons. A rapid start from the Rhinos saw Ash Handley crossing inside ten minutes with Rhyse Martin converting and adding a penalty goal before scoring a self-converted try for 14-0. Another penalty goal for Martin made it 16-0 with the Dragons scoring the final points of the half with a Mickael Goudemand try which saw Tony Gigot convert before adding a penalty goal on the hooter for 16-8 into the interval.

A second try for Handley was rapidly followed by Richie Myler crossing with Martin converting twice before adding a penalty goal for 30-8. Any hopes of a Dragons comeback were ended by Rob Lui and Tom Briscoe crossing for tries either side of a second from Myler, a stunning night with the boot for Martin saw him convert the lot to end on ten successes in a 48-8 win.

London Broncos' survival hopes suffered a blow with a 20-6 loss to Castleford Tigers on Saturday evening. The Broncos opened the scoring with a Brock Lamb try which Kieran Dixon converted for a 6-0 lead that was soon cut to 6-4 by a try for the hosts from Tuoyo Egodo which proved to the final score of the half.

Oliver Holmes put the Tigers ahead with a try just three minutes after the restart for 8-6 before a first senior try for Jacques O'Neill and second score for Egodo saw Jamie Ellis convert twice to complete the 20-6 success.

Sunday afternoon saw Salford Red Devils boost their play-off hopes with a 32-12 win at home to Huddersfield Giants. Salford opened the scoring with penalty goal from Krisnan Inu inside three minutes for 2-0 before he improved a try from Logan Tomkins for an 8-0 lead. Huddersfield cut the gap to 8-6 into the interval with a Darnell McIntosh try and Oliver Russell conversion but went in 10-6 behind after an Inu penalty goal.

Hudds took a 12-10 lead ten minutes after the restart with a self-converted try from Russell but their joy lasted just 14 minutes as Mark Flanagan (Inu conv) crossed with Inu adding another penalty goal before improving an effort from Lolohea and scoring a try of his own as he ended the afternoon with eight successes with the boot in the 32-12 victory.

The round came to an end with Hull FC claiming a 26-16 win over Wakefield Trinity at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. Trinity struck first with Ryan Hampshire racing over and Danny Brough converting for 6-0 before Bureta Faraimo replied for FC with Marc Sneyd converting for 6 all. FC went ahead with three rapid scores in the space of six minutes, Carlos Tuimavave and Ratu Naulago crossing either side of a self-converted try from Sneyd for 20-6 at the interval.

A second try for Naulago saw Sneyd kick for 26-6 but Trinity still had a fight in them with Joe Arundel and Jacob Miller crossing for tries which saw Brough convert for a 26-16 final score.

2019 Super League Round 24 Review.

In attendance as Round 24 began on Thursday night with Wigan Warriors edging a narrow 15-14 win over Hull FC at the KCOM Stadium. FC opened up a 4-0 lead with two penalty goals from Marc Sneyd inside 15 minutes before Wigan were awarded an 8 point try with Liam Marshall tackled in the act of scoring, Zak Hardaker converting twice for and 8-4 lead. Hardaker added a penalty goal for 10-4 before Sneyd replied with a penalty goal on the hooter for 10-6 into the interval.

Wigan regained a two score lead with a second Marshall try just eight minutes after the restart for 14-6 but FC battled back with ex-Warriors forward Scott Taylor crossing for 14-12. A tense final ten minutes saw Sneyd level at 14 all with a fourth successful goal of the evening before Hardaker swept over a drop goal from 40 yards to seal the win for the Warriors at 15-14.

St Helens all but wrapped up the League Leaders Shield in consecutive seasons after a comfortable 26-6 win over Wakefield Trinity on Friday night. The sides exchanged penalty goals early on with Danny Richardson kicking ahead of  Danny Brough for 2-2. Saints regained the lead with three scores in eight minutes as Richardson, Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Tommy Makinson all crossed with Richardson converting the lot for 20-2 at half-time.

The second half saw a near scoreless 40 minutes with a Kevin Naiqama try for the hosts on 72 minutes which Richardson converted while Kelepi Tanginoa crossed for Trinity two minutes from the end for 26-6.

Leeds Rhinos moved away from the bottom with a 44-0 demolition of Huddersfield Giants. The Rhinos raced into a 16-0 lead before the half hour with Adam Cuthbertson, Tom Briscoe and Konrad Hurrell crossing for tries which saw Rhyse Martin convert twice. Brad Dwyer crossed just before half-time with Martin kicking for 22-0 into the interval.

The second half matched the first with a 22 point haul for the visitors as Ash Handley crossed for a brace at either end of the half, sandwiching a second score from Hurrell and an effort from Liam Sutcliffe, Martin converting three times for six successes in the 44-0 win.

Saturday afternoon saw a fiery contest as Catalans Dragons claimed a 30-10 win over Warrington Wolves. The Dragons opened the scoring with a Sam Tomkins penalty goal on 11 minutes for 2-0 before a scuffle saw Michael McIlorum and Chris Hill sent to the sin-bin with Tomkins kicking a penalty for 4-0. Wire levelled with a Jake Mamo try but went into the interval behind after a Fouad Yaha try for the hosts to make it 8-4.

Warrington went ahead three minutes after the restart with Hill touching down and Stefan Ratchford converting for 10-8. The Dragons went back in front on 54 minutes with David Mead's try which saw Tomkins convert before adding two penalty goals either side of the hour for 18-10 with the latter coming after Mamo was sin-binned for the Wolves. Matt Whitley and Tony Gigot wrapped up the win with tries in the final ten minutes which saw Tomkins convert twice for seven successes with the boot. However, a feisty end saw three cards brandished in the final minute with Tomkins, McIlorum and Mamo all sent off.

Sunday saw Hull Kingston Rovers boost their survival hopes with a 27-26 win over Castleford Tigers via Golden Point. The Robins opened the scoring with two scores in a minute as Craig Hall and Adam Quinlan crossed for tries which Ryan Shaw converted for 12-0. The Tigers hit back with a self-converted try from Peter Mata'utia for 12-6 but KR replied with a Shaw penalty goal for 14-6. The sides went into the interval with the Tigers 20-14 ahead after Jordan Rankin and James Clare both crossed with Mata'utia converting twice and adding a penalty goal.

Castleford extended their lead eight minutes after the restart with Greg Minikin crossing and Mata'utia kicking his fifth success of the afternoon for 26-14. Rovers rallied back though with ex-Tiger Ben Crooks scoring twice in the space of three minutes and with Shaw converting both for five successes, the sides were level at 26 all. Neither could break the deadlock as the match went on so Golden Point was required with Danny McGuire sweeping over a drop goal for the Robins to seal a 27-26 win.

The round ended with Salford Red Devils easing to a 58-28 win over London Broncos. Salford opened the scoring with three tries in nine minutes, Krisnan Inu, Mark Flanagan and Josh Jones all crossing with Tui Lolohea converting the lot for 18-0. London replied with a Rhys Williams effort which Kieron Dixon converted for 18-6. Salford regained control with scores from Niall Evalds, Lolohea and a second try from Inu and with Lolohea converting twice and Inu once, the lead was 36-6 at the interval.

London's hopes of a win looked dashed by scores after the restart from Evalds and Kris Welham with Lolohea kicking twice for 48-6. The Broncos stemmed the spree with a Luke Yates score which Dixon improved for 48-12 but Salford replied with a Jackson Hastings score which brought up the half-century at 52-12. London cut the gap again as Matty Fleming and Sadiq Adebiyi, the latter improved by Dixon for 52-22. Evalds completed his hat-trick with Lolohea reaching eight successes with the boot before London had the final say with a Rob Butler try in the final minutes which Dixon converted for a fourth success and 58-28 final score.

Men's Coral Challenge Cup Semi Finals/Women's Challenge Cup Final.

The semi finals of the Men's Coral Challenge Cup took place as a double-header at University of Bolton on Sat 27th July starting with Warrington Wolves claiming a spot in the Wembley final with a 22-14 win over Hull FC.

The Wolves opened the scoring inside seven minutes with Bryson Goodwin crossing for 4-0 before Marc Sneyd cut the gap for FC with a penalty goal for 4-2. FC edged ahead with a try from Bureta Faraimo before Sneyd added a second penalty for 8-4 on the half hour. Wire regained the lead into the interval as Ben Currie crossed with Stefan Ratchford converting for 10-8.

Toby King extended the lead with Ratchford kicking for 16-8 within ten minutes of the restart before FC cut the gap to 16-14 with a Scott Taylor try and Sneyd conversion but it was to no avail as the Wolves wrapped up the win late on with a Joe Philbin try and a third Ratchford conversion to complete a 22-14 win.

St Helens will contest the final for the first time since 2010 as they claimed a 26-2 win over Championship side Halifax RLFC. Saints opened the scoring with a Danny Richardson penalty inside four minutes before Steve Tyrer levelled with a penalty goal for 2-2. The hosts edged into the lead before the interval with James Roby crossing and Richardson converting for 8-2 into half-time.

Further scores from Dominique Peyroux and Jonny Lomax saw Richardson convert twice for 20-2 before a Theo Fages try and fifth conversion from Richardson wrapped up a 26-2 win.

The Women's Challenge Cup final took place earlier in the day with Leeds Rhinos Women successfully retaining the title with a 16-10 win over Castleford Tigers Women. The Tigresses opened the scoring with a Rhinannon Marshall for 4-0 before the Rhinos replied four minutes later through Fran Goldthorp with Courtney Hill converting for 6-4. Caitlin Beevers increased the lead with a try five minutes later for 10-4. The sides went into the interval level after Tamzin Renouf crossed and Tara Stanley converted for 10 all.

The second half proved to be a close run 40 minutes with just a single score as Hill went over for a try which she converted to wrap up back-to-back titles for the Rhinos Women with a 16-10 victory.

2019 Women's Super League Round Seven Review

Ahead of a break for the Challenge Cup final, round seven featured just three games with Featherstone Rovers Ladies v York City Knights Ladies moved until later in the season.

Viewing on Our League on Sunday as Wigan Warriors Women claimed a huge win with a 20-16 victory over Bradford Bulls Women at Odsal. The Bulls opened the scoring inside three minutes as Sarah Dunn raced over and Leah Jones converted for a 6-0. Wigan hit back through Megan Grace-Holding for 6-4 six minutes later but a close first half would see just one further score as Hayley Hields went over on the wing for 10-4 into the interval.

Bradford took just second of the second half to extend their lead with Amy Hardcastle racing over for a try which Jones improved for 16-4. Wigan battled back and cut the gap through Carys Marsh with Charlotte Foley converting for 16-10. The Warriors comeback was completed by two scores in seven minutes as Gemma Walsh and Vanessa Temple both crossed with Foley adding a conversion for 20-16.

St Helens Women gained revenge for their Challenge Cup exit to the Leeds Rhinos Women with a 30-12 win. Saints flew out of the blocks with Jodie Cunningham crossing inside two minutes for 4-0. Leeds replied through Shannon Lacey with Courtney Hill kicking them into a 6-4 lead that was short lived as Saints regained the lead with a Leah Burke try which Faye Gaskin converted for a 10-6 advantage. The lead changed hands again as Hill crossed and converted for 12-10 into the interval.

Saints hit back inside two minutes of the restart with Gaskin crossing and converting for 16-12 before Chantelle Crowl went over for a try which Gaskin improved for 22-12 before she added a penalty goal for 24-12. The win was wrapped up with five minutes to go as Crowl scored her second and Gaskin kicked her fifth success of the afternoon for 30-12. Leeds had the final say though as Hill claimed her second try for a 30-16 final score.

Castleford Tigers Women warmed up for the Cup final with a comfortable 54-8 win over city rivals Wakefield Trinity Ladies. Trinity lost 100-0 in the last meeting and righted that wrong inside five minutes as Tara Moxon crossed for 4-0. Cas replied with Frankie Townend, Jasmine Cudjoe, Lacey Owen and Esme Renyolds all crossing with Claire Garner converting twice for 20-4. The Tigers were in full control as Townend claimed her second score ahead of a Grace Field effort and second try for Owen with Garner converting twice more for 36-4. Wakefield hit back as Maddie Hurst crossed for 36-8 but it was a first-half treble for Townend and Garner conversion that made it 42-8 into the interval.

The Tigresses continued their dominance into the second half with a Sammy Watts try followed by second scores from Renyolds and Cudjoe to complete a 54-8 win. 

2019 Super League Round 23 Review

In attendance as round 23 began on Thursday night as Wigan Warriors extended Wakefield Trinity's losing streak with a 36-16 win. Wigan raced into an 18-0 lead inside 14 minutes with tries from Liam Farrell, Zak Hardaker and Willie Isa with Hardaker converting the lot. Trinity had no answer and went into the interval with a huge 34-0 deficit to overturn after Farrell crossed for his second try ahead of Jake Shorrocks score straight after the restart and intercept try by Jarrod Sammut. 

Wakefield got off the mark with ex-Warriors back Ryan Hampshire crossing and Brough converting for 34-6 before a full length score from Oliver Gildart saw Hardaker kick for 40-6. Hampshire collected a long range kick to claim his second try with Brough converting for 40-12 before a rare hat-trick try from Farrell saw Hardaker reach seven successes with the boot at 46-12. Wakefield had the final say late on as Max Jowitt crossed for 46-16.

Friday night saw a battle near the bottom as Huddersfield Giants claimed an 18-12 win at Hull Kingston Rovers. Rovers opened the scoring inside eight minutes through Kane Linnett with Craig Hall converting for 6-0, Matty English replied for the Giants who were level after Darnell McIntosh converted. 

The sides remained level into the interval with the equality broken seven minutes after the restart by Alex Mellor's try before McIntosh added two penalty goals on 51 and 60 minutes for 14-6. KR cut the gap with six minutes to go as Hall touched down and converted for 14-12 but it was to be joy for the Giants as Jermaine McGillvary went over in the 78th minute to seal the 18-12 win. 

Sunday's quarter of games begins with Hull FC maintaining third spot with a narrow 26-24 win at Leeds Rhinos. FC led 6-0 inside six minutes with a Sika Manu and Marc Sneyd conversion before Sneyd improved an effort from Faraimo for 12-0. Leeds cut the gap into the interval with Konrad Hurrell touching down and Rhyse Martin converting for 12-6. 

FC restored their two score advantage within four minutes of the restart, Jamie Shaul crossing and Sneyd converting for 18-6 with Sneyd adding a penalty goal for 20-6. Leeds closed the gap with a brace from Tom Briscoe either side of Ash Handley touching down and with Martin converting the lot, the Rhinos led 24-20. Their comeback was to be cancelled out though as FC snatched the win nine minutes from the end with Ratu Naulago crossing out wide and Sneyd kicking his fifth success for 26-24. 

London Broncos completed a home double over leaders St Helens with a comfortable 32-12 win. London opened the scoring on 11 minutes as Matty Fleming crossed for a try which Kieran Dixon converted for 6-0. Saints levelled on 22 minutes with Aaron Smith touching down and Danny Richardson converting before they fell behind five minutes later to a Luke Yates try which Dixon improved for 12-6. Dixon added a penalty goal to extend the lead to 14-6 into the interval.

Saints cut the deficit with a self-converted effort from Richardson before London took control with tries from Alex Walker and Matty Gee before Fleming claimed his second try, Dixon added three conversions for a total of six successes as the Broncos wrapped up the 32-12 win. 

Salford Red Devils boosted their top five hopes with a comfortable 40-14 win over Catalans Dragons. Catalans opened the scoring with a Sam Tomkins penalty goal for 2-0 before Salford hit back on 27 minutes through Greg Johnson with Krisnan Inu converting for 6-2. Catalans regained the lead with a Sam Kasiano try which Tomkins converted for 8-6 but Salford would lead into the interval as Derrell Olpherts and Kris Welham crossed and Inu converted the latter for 16-8.

Catalans took just three minutes of the second half to rely with Brayden Wiliame touching down and Tomkins converting for 16-14 but for the Dragons that was were their joy ended as Salford took control with Tui Lolohea, Niall Evalds and Mark Flanagan crossing while Welham claimed his second and after Inu converted the first, Lolohea converted the other three scores to complete the 40-14 victory.

The round ended with Castleford Tigers claiming a 27-18 over Warrington Wolves at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. The Wolves struck first with a Declan Patton penalty goal after just six minutes for 2-0 before James Clare crossed for the Tigers inside nine minutes with Peter Mata'utia converting for a 6-2 lead that became 10-2 with two penalty goals from Mata'utia. Warrington cut the gap with a Jake Mamo try which Patton converted for 10-8 but the lead at the interval would be 12-8 for the hosts after another Mata'utia penalty goal.

Tom Lineham crossed to put the Wolves ahead, Patton kicking for 14-12 but the Tigers fought back with scores from Greg Minkin, Jake Trueman and Tuoyo Egodo in the space of ten minutes with a single Mata'utia conversion taking the score to 26-14. Warrington cut the gap late on with a Toby King try but the Tigers were to have the final say as Trueman swept over a last minute drop goal for 27-18.

2019 Super League Round 22 Review

Round 22 began with a game of two halves at the KCOM Stadium as Hull FC held on to win 35-22 over London Broncos. FC flew out of the blocks with Carlos Tuimavave and BureFaraimo crossing inside eight minutes with Marc Sneyd converting for a 12-0 lead that soon became 28-0 with rapid scores from Joe Westerman, Jake Connor and Josh Griffin coupled with two conversions from Sneyd. The hosts would lead 34-0 into the interval as Ratu Naulago raced over with Sneyd converting.

London's response was spectacular as they took just five minutes of the second half to cut the gap, Matty Fleming crossing and Kieran Dixon converting for 34-6. The Broncos' comeback grew with Jordan Abdull and Sadiq Adebiyi going over with a Dixon conversion cutting the deficit to 34-16. FC avoided a second half nilling with a 72nd minute Sneyd drop goal but it was London who ended the scoring with a second Adebiyi score which Dixon kicked for a 35-22 final score.

In attendance on Friday night as St Helens claimed a 32-10 derby win over Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Wigan struck first with a Zak Hardaker penalty for 2-0 before Lachlan Coote levelled with a penalty for 2-2 on nine minutes. Saints edged ahead with a Tommy Makinson try for 6-2 but Wigan hit back with another Hardaker penalty for 6-4. A second Makinson try and Coote conversion meant Saints led 12-4 into the interval.

Saints took control with a self-converted try from Coote before he improved scores from Kevin Naiqama and Jonny Lomax either side of adding a penalty goal for 32-4. Wigan had the final say on the evening with a self-converted score from Hardaker for 32-10.

The evening's televised action saw a battle at the bottom with Hull Kingston Rovers easing to a 32-16 win at Leeds Rhinos. The Robins struck first with ex-Rhinos forward Matt Parcell crossing inside eight minutes for 4-0 before Kane Linnett and Adam Quinlan went over and Josh Drinkwater converted the latter for 14-0. Leeds hit back with rapid tries from Brad Dwyer and Liam Sutcliffe to cut the gap to 14-8 into the interval.

A Harvey Livett try was followed by Linnett's second with Craig Hall adding a penalty goal and converting the former for 26-8. Leeds fought back with scores from Konrad Hurrell and Rhyse Martin but it was the Robins who had the last say with Hall crossing and converting for a 32-16 final score.

Huddersfield Giants' mixed form continued with a narrow 32-28 loss to Catalans Dragons at the John Smith's Stadium. An early self-converted brace from Sam Tomkins gave the Dragons a 12-0 advantage. Louis Senior crossed with Jake Wardle converting for 12-6 before Brayden Wiliame crossed for 16-6 with Tomkins completing his hat-trick with another try and goal for 22-6.A self-converted score from Wardle cut the gap to 22-12 into the interval.

A seven minute brace from former Giants back Jodie Broughton saw Tomkins convert the latter for 32-12. The Giants cut the gap with scores from Darnell McIntosh and Lee Gaskell before Senior claimed his second score late on and with Wardle reaching four successes with the boot, Hudds narrowly lost out 32-28.

Wakefield Trinity's horror run was extended by a 36-16 city derby loss to Castleford Tigers. After a scoreless first quarter, Trinity opened the scoring with a Danny Brough penalty goal before he improved a Kyle Wood try two minutes later for 8-0. The Tigers hit back as Tuoyo Egodo crossed but another Brough penalty made it 10-4 to the hosts who saw the gap cut just before the interval by an Oliver Holmes try for 10-8.

Cas went ahead for the first time five minutes after the restart with James Clare going over out wide and Peter Mata'utia converting for 14-10. The lead became 20-10 before the hour mark with a Jordan Rankin score which Mata'utia improved. Wakefield hit back with a self-converted try from Brough for 20-16 but to no avail as Clare completed his hat-trick ahead of a second score for Rankin with Mata'utia kicking twice to wrap up a 36-16 victory.

Warrington Wolves' hopes of cutting the gap at the top were dented by a 22-12 home loss to Salford Red Devils. The visitors struck first with Ryan Lannon crossing inside four minutes, Krisnan Inu converting for a 6-0 lead that was cut on 25 minutes by Jason Clark's try which saw Declan Patton level with the conversion. Salford opened up a narrow lead into the interval as Inu kicked a penalty for 8-6.

A brace of tries and conversion from Inu followed a Kris Welham score as Salford moved to 22-6. Warrington had the last say with a Matt Davis try after the hour and Patton conversion for a 22-12 final score.

2019 Super League Round 21 Review

The round opened on Thursday night with Huddersfield Giants claiming a 36-18 win over Salford Red Devils. Salford started superbly with Tyrone McCarthy and Ken Sio crossing for early tries to open up an 8-0 lead. The Giants replied with scores from Matty English and Louis Senior and with Lee Gaskell converting the former, they led 10-8 into the interval.

Darnell McIntosh crossed within four minutes of the restart to make it 14-8 before Kris Welham replied for 14-12 just five minutes later. Hudds took control with three tries in 13 minutes, Kruise Leeming, Ukuma Ta'ai and Jake Wardle touching down with McIntosh converting twice for 30-12. Salford cut the gap with a second try from McCarthy which Krisnan Inu converted but to no avail as McIntosh claimed his second try late on and converted for a third time to confirm a 36-18 victory.

Friday night began with the televised action featuring a Yorkshire derby as Leeds Rhinos secured an 18-10 win over Castleford Tigers. The Rhinos opened the scoring with a Trent Merrin try and Liam Sutcliffe conversion for 6-0 inside 20 minutes. The one score lead remained into the interval with Jack Walker extending the Rhinos lead four minutes after the restart, Sutcliffe converting for 12-0 before adding a penalty goal before the hour mark for a 14-0 advantage.

The Tigers hit back with a rapid three minute brace from James Clare and with Jordan Rankin converting the latter, they cut the gap to 14-10 but it was sheer consolation as Robert Lui marked his Rhinos debut in style with a 73rd minute try to wrap up the 18-10 win.

In attendance as Wigan Warriors strolled to a 52-10 win over Hull Kingston Rovers at the DW Stadium, Wigan took an early 8-0 lead with a Liam Farrell try which Zak Hardaker converted before adding a penalty goal a few minutes later. Rovers replied with Adam Quinlan crossing and Ryan Shaw converting before a Liam Marshall brace saw Hardaker convert the former and then score a self-converted effort for a 24-6 half-time advantage.

Wigan took control in the second half with George Williams and Oliver Gildart crossing either side of Farrell's second score, Hardaker converting the lot for a huge 46-6 lead. Joe Burgess dived over to bring up the half-century at 52-6 but it was to be Rovers who had the final say as Quinlan claimed his second try ten minutes from the end for 52-10.

St Helens maintained their lead at the top with a comfortable 40-12 win at Hull FC. Saints flew out of the blocks with tries from Morgan Knowles and Theo Fages which Lachlan Coote converted for a 12-0 lead inside eight minutes. A self-converted effort from Coote gave the visitors an 18-0 lead into the interval.

The contest seemed to be settled before the hour with Regan Grace, Jack Ashworth and Jonny Lomax crossing ahead of a second score from Coote who converted thrice for six successes and a 40-0 lead. FC had the last say on the score with two tries in three minutes as Jamie Shaul and Ratu Naulago touched down with Marc Sneyd converting both for 40-12.

Saturday afternoon saw Warrington Wolves keep up the pressure at the top with a 36-6 win at London Broncos. The Wolves started well with three scores in the opening quarter, Tom Lineham, Mike Cooper and Bryson Goodwin all crossing with Declan Patton converting the trio for 18-0 before improving a Jake Mamo try on 22 minutes for a huge 24-0 lead.

London's hopes looked to be over before the interval as Jack Hughes and Toby King touched down and with Patton kicking twice, Warrington led 36-0 into half-time. The Broncos actually won the second half with the solitary score which came two minutes after the restart, Matty Fozard crossing and Kieran Dixon converting for a 36-6 final score.

The round ended with a comfortable 44-10 win for Catalans Dragons over Wakefield Trinity at Stade Gilbert Brutus. The Dragons opened up a 10-0 lead inside 17 minutes as Jodie Broughton and Matt Whitley crossed with Sam Tomkins converting just the first effort before he improved a score from Samisoni Langi for 16-0. Trinity replied with a Reece Lyne try which Danny Brough converted for 16-6 before Broughton claimed his second try for a 20-6 lead into the interval.

Broughton completed his hat-trick inside three minutes of the restart with Tomkins converting before adding to a Kenny Edwards try and brace from Tony Gigot as the Dragons led 44-6. Trinity has the final say on the round with a 78th minute effort from Bill Tupou for 44-10.

2019 Women's Coral Challenge Cup Semi Final Review

 After meeting in the 2018 final, Castleford Tigers Women and Leeds Rhinos Women will meet again this time at the University of Bolton Stadium on the 27th after securing passage from the semi finals.
The Tigresses romped to a huge 100-0 victory over city rivals Wakefield Trinity Ladies on Sunday afternoon. Tara Stanley opened the scoring with an eighth minute try which she also converted before improving a score from Grace Field for 12-0. Another superb Stanley score was followed by braces from Frankie Townend and Sinead Peach with Georgia Roche and Emma Lumley also crossing for a huge 58-0 half-time lead which included nine kicks from Stanley. 
Two further scores from Townend were followed by a brace by Maisie Lumb and a hat-trick try for Stanley as the prospect of a century became a case of when rather than if it would come. Lumb wrapped up her hat-trick before Shona Hoyle and a second Roche try made it 96-0. The fabled 100 arrived in the final minute as Esme Renyolds touched down with kickers Stanley and Claire Garner ending the afternoon with ten and two successes each.


A closer contest over at the Totally Wicked Stadium as Leeds Rhinos Women edged a 16-10 win over St Helens Women. Saints opened the scoring through Jodie Cunningham with Beth Stott converting for 6-0 before she added a penalty goal for 8-0 after 30 minutes. Leeds cut the gap with a Shannon Lacey try for 8-4 into the interval.
Saints made it 10-4 on the hour with a Stott penalty goal but were then caught out as Sophie Nuttall and Caitlin Beevers crossed for tries which Courtney Hill converted to wrap up the 16-10 win and leave them one win from back to back titles.

2019 Super League Round 20 Review

Round 20 opened with a fierce derby on Thursday night as Hull Kingston Rovers claimed an 18-10 win over city rivals Hull FC. FC started the brighter with Bureta Faraimo crossing for a ninth minute try which Marc Sneyd converted for 6-0. Rovers replied with a Ben Crooks effort and Ryan Shaw conversion to level at 6 all, a scoreline that remained into the interval.

Rovers went ahead for the first time ten minutes after the restart with Joel Tomkins touching down and Shaw converting for 12-6. FC cut the gap to 12-10 after the hour mark with Andre Savelio crossing but the score proved to be their last as Matt Parcell marked his debut in style by going over in the final minute for KR to seal the win, Shaw converting to confirm a famous 18-10 victory.

Wakefield Trinity boosted their top five hopes with a comfortable 36-10 win over Huddersfield Giants. The Giants opened the scoring through Alex Mellor on eight minutes with Lee Gaskell converting for 6-0 before Tyler Randell crossed for the hosts with former Giants legend Danny Brough converting to level at 6 all. Brough edged Trin ahead with two penalty goals in three minutes for 10-6 but Hudds were soon level as Louis Senior crossed for 10 all. Wakefield regained the lead just before the interval as Randell claimed his second score which Brough improved for 16-10.

The second half saw Trin dominate starting with a Brough drop goal before Jordan Crowther's try made it 21-10. Ryan Hampshire added a penalty goal before improving a Jacob Miller score and hat-trick try from Randell for a huge 35-10 lead that was capped off by a Miller drop goal for 36-10.

The televised action saw a huge clash between the top two with league leaders St Helens claiming a 21-10 win over Warrington Wolves. A tight first half saw Warrington lead 4-0 at the interval courtesy of penalty goals from Declan Patton in the 15th and 18th minutes. Patton added a third penalty goal for 6-0 before Mark Percival crossed for Saints with Lachlan Coote converting to level at 6 all.

The game saw a frantic final ten minutes with Luke Thompson (Coote conv) putting Saints 12-6 in front before Jake Mamo's cut the gap to 12-10. Coote swept over a drop goal for 13-10 before Alex Walmsley crossed three minutes from the end with Coote converting and then adding a penalty goal to confirm a 21-10 success.

In attendance as Wigan Warriors moved into the top five with a 28-12 victory over Salford Red Devils. The Red Devils struck first with a sixth minute penalty goal from Krisnan Inu for a 2-0 lead that was equalled on 20 minutes by a Chris Hankinson penalty goal. Wigan edged ahead with a try from Liam Marshall before Joe Greenwood crossed for 10-2. Salford cut the gap to 10-6 into the interval as Darrell Olpherts went over out wide.

Wigan took control after the restart with Zak Hardaker crossing ahead of a second Marshall score, Hankinson converting both for 22-6. Salford replied through Kris Welham (Inu conv) but to no avail as Oliver Partington dived over in the final minute with Hankinson's fourth conversion confirming the 28-12 win.

Sunday afternoon saw Leeds Rhinos move off the foot of the table with a 31-12 win over Catalans Dragons. The Rhinos raced into an 18-0 lead inside 21 minutes with tries from Adam Cuthbertson, Tom Briscoe and Brad Singleton with Liam Sutcliffe converting the lot. Catalans replied with an Arthur Romano try which Sam Tomkins converted for 18-6, a scoreline that lasted into the interval.

Catalans cut the deficit further with a self-converted effort from Tomkins for 18-12 but it was to be their last score as Konrad Hurrell and Jack Walker crossed for the Rhinos either side of a drop goal from former Dragons back Richie Myler to seal the win, Sutcliffe converting both tries for 31-12.

The round ended with Castleford Tigers securing a comfortable 42-10 victory over London Broncos. The Tigers opened the scoring inside 12 minutes through Tuoyo Egodo who crossed for a 4-0 lead that became 10-0 on the half hour as former Broncos back Mike McMeeken touched down and Jordan Rankin converted. London got off the mark just before the interval with a try from Kieran Dixon for 10-4 but it was to be the Tigers who has the last say on the half with McMeeken crossing for his second score which Rankin converted for 16-4 into half-time.

Castleford extended their lead within a minute of the restart as Rankin touched down for 20-4 before improving a second score from Egodo for a 28-4 advantage. Cas were in control before the hour mark as Jake Trueman, James Clare and Chris Clarkson all went over for tries with Rankin reaching his fifth success at 42-4. London has the final say on the scoreline though with Rhys Williams crossing six minutes from the end with Dixon converting for 42-10. 

2019 Women's Super League Round Six Review

After mixed results in the Coral Challenge Cup for a number of the teams, the Women's Super League resumed at round six which began with Leeds Rhinos Women taking the spoils in a with an 18-6 Yorkshire derby win over Bradford Bulls Women. The Rhinos struck first with a try from Fran Goldthorp inside six minutes which Courtney Hill converted for a 6-0 lead which lasted into the interval.

The Rhinos took control with two scores in four minutes as Charlotte Booth and Keara Bennett crossed with Hill converting twice for 18-0. Bradford got off the mark after the hour with Bailey Alexander touching down and Leah Jones converting for an 18-6 final score.

Castleford Tigers Women sit top of the table after a comfortable 46-20 win over Featherstone Rovers Ladies. The Tigresses raced out of the blocks with tries for Tamzin Renouf, Kelsey Gentles and Georgia Roche inside 13 minutes with Tara Stanley converting the lot for 18-0. Stanley crossed and converted herself minutes later for 24-0 before improving scores from Claire Garner and Sammy Watts for 36-0. Featherstone got off the mark just before the hooter as Nat Harrowell touched down for 36-4 into the interval.

Rovers claimed back to back scores as Katie Hepworth crossed for a brace which she converted for 36-16 before Cas resumed control with a try from Maisie Lumb for 40-16 before Chelsea Senior crossed to cut the gap to 40-20. The final say went to Cas debutant Becky Grady as she touched down four minutes from the end with Stanley successful for a seventh time with the boot for 46-20.

In attendance via Our League as Wigan Warriors Women moved into fourth spot with a 44-6 win over Wakefield Trinity Women. A perfect start for the Warriors saw Megan Grace-Holding cross inside a minute for 4-0 before Wakey replied through Saskia Lewis, Jess Matthews converting for 6-4. Wigan took control with tries from Rebecca Greenfield, Emily Baggaley and an Alison Burrows brace with Charlotte Foley converting twice for 24-6 into the interval.

Vicky Molyneux resumed the Warriors spree four minutes after the restart before Rach Porter, Sarah Harrison and Christina Tully crossed with Harrison converting twice for a huge 44-6 victory.

The round ended with a huge 60-6 win for St Helens Women over York City Knights Ladies at Ruskin Park. Saints flew out of the blocks with Rebecca Rotherham scoring the opening try inside two minutes, Faye Gaskin crossed and converted herself minutes later before Rhianna Burke went over out wide for 14-0. A brace for Naomi Williams either side of Burke's second try saw Gaskin unable to convert in the wind as Saints led 26-0 and the issue continued into the interval after a try from Chantelle Crowl made it 30-0.

Gaskin crossed and converted for a second time two minutes after the restart before Beth Stott improved a second score from Crowl and Burke wrapped up her hat-trick for a 46-0 lead. Danielle Bush's effort brought up the 50 point mark before Williams completed her hat-trick. York avoided a nilling with an Ashleigh Hyde try from and Ellie Hendry conversion before a third treble of the afternoon saw Gaskin complete her hat-trick with Stott converting for 60-6.

2019 Women's Challenge Cup Quarter Final Review

The Women's Challenge Cup Quarter finals opened with holders Leeds Rhinos cruising to a 74-0 win over Championship side Warrington Wolves Women. The Rhinos struck their opening score in the 10th minute as Courtney Hill crossed and converted for 6-0. She was then to improve an effort from Hanna Butcher as the hosts led 12-0. Warrington's defence was carved open again with a brace from Fran Goldthorp, Hill continuing her 100% record with the conversions for 24-0. The lead became 40-0 into the interval as Butcher and Hill completed braces while Chloe Kerrigan scooted over, Hill converting all but the latter.

The Rhinos spree continued in the second half with Caitlin Beevers crossing before Hill wrapped up her hat-trick for a 50-0 lead. Charlotte Booth (Hill conv) crossed to extend the lead further before Sophie Robinson went over ahead of a brace try from Kerrigan and hat-trick score from Goldthorp, the gloss on the win came as Robinson claimed her brace in the 74-0 hammering.

In attendance for the derby clash at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday with St Helens Women easing to a 36-0 victory over Wigan Warriors Women. A close first half saw the hosts lead 10-0 after tries from Leah Burke and Lizzie Gladman coupled with a single conversion from Faye Gaskin. 

Recent meetings between the sides have been close but this time saw the Saints run riot after the interval, Zoe Harris, Emily Rudge and Tara Jones all racing over before the hour mark, Gaskin converting the lot for 28-0. A miserable afternoon for the Warriors was completed by two further tries from Burke who completed her hat-trick in the 36-0 win.

Castleford Tigers Women secured a spot in the last four with a comfortable 48-8 win over Bradford Bulls Women. The Tigresses flew out of the block with Rhiannon Marshall, Maisie Lumb and Kelsey Gentles all crossing for tries which saw Tara Stanley convert once for 14-0. The Bulls hit back through Savannah Andrade before Courtney Pointon resumed the hosts' control at 18-4 and the Bulls would have the final say on the half as Amy Hardcastle touched down for 18-8 at the interval.

The hosts took full control in the second half, Gentles and Marshall completing braces either side of a Tamzin Renouf try which Stanley improved for 32-8. Gentles completed her hat-trick ahead of a self-converted score from Stanley who rounded off the win as she converted a last-gasp try from Georgia Roche for 48-8.

The closest tie of the round saw Wakefield Trinity Ladies edge a 26-24 win over League One side Keighley Albion. Albion opened the scoring early on for a 4-0 lead which was soon levelled by a Chloe Billington try which Lisa Taylor converted for 6-4. Keighley went back in front at 8-6 before Hannah Watt crossed and Taylor kicked for 12-8. Taylor added a penalty goal before Albion cut the gap to  14-12 into the interval.

Shillito converted a for the try after the restart for a 18-14 lead but Trin hit back through Saskia Lewis' try and Taylor's conversion for 20-18. Once again, Albion regained the lead with Shillito kicking her third conversion but the tie was to be won by Trin as Billington crossed for her second try which Taylor converted for 26-24. Keighley's tries were scored by Laura Ackroyd, Jodee Loader and a hat-trick from Emma Templeton. 

2019 Super League Round 19 Review


Round 19 began on Thursday night as London Broncos edge a narrow 26-24 win over fellow relegation battlers Hull Kingston Rovers. London struck early with a Kieran Dixon penalty goal for 2-0 before Morgan Smith crossed to make it 6-0 on 23 minutes. Dixon added another penalty goal for an 8-0 lead before Weller Hauraki replied for the Robins with Ryan Shaw converting for 8-6 into the interval.

The Robins flew out of the blocks after the restart with Adam Quinlan, Chris Atkin crossing inside six minutes with Shaw converting twice for an 18-8 lead for the visitors. The Broncos response saw Alex Walker, Jordan Abdull and Rob Butler all go over with Dixon improving the lot to give them a 26-18 advantage that was soon cut by Josh Drinkwater's try and Shaw's conversion to just two points but the Broncos managed to hold on to secure a 26-24 win.

In attendance on Friday night at the John Smith's Stadium as Wigan Warriors claimed a 38-22 win over Huddersfield Giants. The Warriors opened the scoring with a self-converted try from Chris Hankinson inside six minutes before Hudds levelled with a Sam Hewitt try and Lee Gaskell conversion for 6 all. Wigan regained the lead with scores from Sean O'Loughlin and Liam Marshall with Hankinson converting both for an 18-6 lead. The lead narrowed to 18-12 at the interval after Matt Frawley crossed for the hosts and Gaskell converted.

However, Wigan took control after the restart with Joe Burgess and Tommy Leuluai crossing for tries with Hankinson improving both while adding to penalty goals for a huge 32-12 advantage. The win looked to be wrapped up by the 68th minute as George Willams crossed and Hankinson kicked for 38-12. Hudds staged a fightback in the final ten minutes with Louis Senior and Jordan Turner going over with Gaskell converting just the former for a 38-22 final score.

Salford Red Devils continued their good form with a 26-16 win over Castleford Tigers at the AJ Bell Stadium. The hosts struck first through Niall Evalds with Krisnan Inu converting for a 6-0 lead which soon became 12-0 as he improved a Lee Mossop score. The Tigers replied with a Daniel Smith try which Peter Mata'utia converted for 12-6. Salford regained a two score lead with a Jackson Hastings try which Inu improved for 18-6 but the gap was to be one score again into the interval as Greg Minikin and Jordan Rankin went in, Mata'utia converted just the latter for 18-16.

The second half was a quieter one on the scoreboard with Derrell Olpherts crossing for a try on the hour which Inu converted for 24-16 with the final say going to Inu as he kicked a fifth success in the final minute to complete the 26-16 victory.

The televised action saw St Helens maintain a gap at the top with a 36-10 win over Leeds Rhinos at the Totally Wicked Stadium. A rapid start from the hosts saw Kevin Naiqama and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook crossing with Lachlan Coote converting twice for a 12-0 lead inside just five minutes. Leeds replied through Brad Dwyer with Liam Sutcliffe converting for 12-6 but a self-converted effort from Coote made it 18-6 three minutes later. The lead remained at two scores until just before the interval with Tommy Makinson acrobatically crossing with Coote converting from the wing for 24-6.

The second half was a more tighter affair with Luke Briscoe crossing out wide for the Rhinos to make it 24-10 but there was to be no comeback with St Helens wrapping up the win late on with a second score from McCarthy-Scarsbrook and James Bentley's try which saw Coote convert both for his sixth success at 36-10.

Friday's final game saw Warrington Wolves cruise to a 30-6 win over Wakefield Trinity at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Trinity raced out of the blocks with the opening score coming inside a minute, Ryan Hampshire crossing for a try which Danny Brough converted for 6-0. Warrington levelled through Ben Currie with Declan Patton converting for 6 all before Josh Charnley and Mike Cooper went over with Patton converting the latter for 18-6 into the interval.

The Wolves spree resumed inside two minutes of the restart as Blake Austin crossed for a try which Patton improved for 24-6 but the second half proved to be far tighter from there with the only further score coming in the final minute, Jack Johnson scoring a try which saw Patton kick his fifth success of the evening to wrap up a 30-6 win.

The round ended on Saturday with Hull FC easing to a 50-10 win over Catalans Dragons. The Dragons struck first through Sam Tomkins who's self-converted try made it 6-0 inside eight minutes. FC responded with an Albert Kelly score which Marc Sneyd converted to level at 6 all before he added a penalty goal for 8-6. Joe Westerman crossed to extend the lead further with Sneyd kicking for 14-6. Catalans responded with a try from Lewis Tierney but they were dealt two further blows before the interval as Andre Savelio and Josh Griffin touched down, Sneyd improving both for a huge 26-10 advantage at the interval.

The second half saw Kieran Buchanan and Ratu Naulago extend the lead further with tries which Sneyd converted before a second score from Griffin and Jamie Shaul effort saw Sneyd reach nine successes in a 50-10 victory.

2019 Super League Round 18 Review

Round 18 began on Thursday night with Hull FC coming from behind to ease to a 31-18 win over Castleford Tigers at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. The Tigers opened the scoring with a Greg Minikin try for 4-0 before Ratu Naulago levelled for FC four minutes later. Peter Mata'utia kicked two
penalty goals for an 8-4 lead before Junior Moors crossed and Mata'utia converted for a 14-4 lead at the interval.

FC mounted a superb comeback with Naulago claiming his second try ahead of Albert Kelly going over, Sneyd converting twice before adding a penalty goal to make it 18-14. The hosts levelled with Greg Eden’s try on the hour but it proved to be a short lived equality as Kelly struck twice to complete his hat-trick with Sneyd converting twice for 30-18. The win was wrapped up for FC with four minutes remaining as Sneyd swept over a drop goal for 31–18.

In attendance at Emerald Headingley on Friday night as Wigan Warriors secured a 23–14 victory over Leeds Rhinos. The Rhinos opened the scoring with a Liam Sutcliffe penalty goal on 17 minutes for 2-0 before the Warriors hit back through Oliver Gildart with Chris Hankinson converting before adding two penalty goals minutes later for 10-2. Leeds cut the gap just before half-time as Adam Cuthbertson crossed and Sutcliffe converted for 10–8 but the final say of the half went to Wigan as Sam Powell swept over a drop goal for 11–8 into the interval.

The hosts regained the lead as Trent Merrin went over on 50 minutes with Sutcliffe kicking for 14-11. However, Wigan were soon back ahead as Oliver Partington dived over before a last minute drive from Tony Clubb saw both converted by Hankinson to seal a 23-14 victory.

St Helens maintained their lead at the top with a comfortable 38-2 victory over Huddersfield Giants. The Giants opened the scoring inside three minutes as Oliver Russell swept over a penalty goal for 2-0. Saints replied with a self converted effort from Lachlan Coote before Jonny Lomax and Tommy Makinson also crossed with Coote adding a single conversion for 16-2. Theo Fages crossed  before Makinson claimed his second try (Coote conv) as the lead stretched to 26-2 into the interval.

The two points were wrapped up before the hour as Makinson completed his hat-trick before a second score from Lomax saw Coote converting both to wrap up a 38-2 win.

Saturday’s televised action saw London Broncos claim a surprise 30-12 success away to Catalans Dragons. London opened the scoring on 12 minutes as Jordan Abdull crossed and Kieran Dixon converted for 6–0. The Dragons replied with a try from Fouad Yaha before Rhys Williams (Dixon conv) made it 12-4 but another Yaha effort cut the gap on the half hour mark to 12-8. Tries from Elliot Kear and Dixon either side of the hour, saw Dixon convert both for 24-8 before a second try from Williams ( Dixon conv) confirmed the win for the Broncos. Catalans had the final say though as Yaha crossed for his hat-trick score four minutes from the end for 30–12.

Hull Kingston Rovers gained revenge over Warrington Wolves for their Challenge Cup exit with a narrow 16-14 win at KCOM Craven Park. A Ryan Shaw penalty goal gave Rovers a 2-0 lead early on before Bryson Goodwin crossed for the Wolves with Declan Patton converting and later adding a penalty goal for an 8-2 lead. KR cut the gap to 8-4 at the interval with a last-gasp penalty goal from Shaw.

The hosts levelled with a Mose Masoe try on 54 minutes with Shaw kicking for a 10-8 lead that was rapidly cancelled out by Josh Charnley’s try (Patton conv) as Wire led 14-10. Rovers came achingly close to completing a comeback in the last meeting and this time they were successful as five minutes from the end, Adam Quinlan crossed with Shaw kicking to secure a 16-14 win.

The round ended on Sunday as Salford Red Devils claimed a 44–20 win over Wakefield Trinity. Salford struck early as Jake Bibby crossed for 4-0 but Wakefield replied with a Jacob Miller try which Danny Brough converted for 6-4. Salford regained the lead with Niall Evalds crossing ahead of Bibby’s second try, Krisnan Inu converted the former before improving an effort from Joey Lussick as the hosts led 20-6 into the interval.

Ben Jones-Bishop cut the gap four minutes after the restart with Brough converting for 20-12 but Salford replied through Robert Lui ( Inu conv) to make it 26-12. The sides exchanged scores either side of the hour, Miller claiming his second try ahead of Kris Welham crossing for the hosts with an Inu conversion moving the score to 32-16. Jones-Bishop claimed his second score of the afternoon before two scores from Evalds to seal his hat-trick late on saw Inu end on six successful conversions as Salford won 44-20.
