Wakefield Win Extends Leigh Woes
Alongside the Challenge Cup semi finals, Super League continued this weekend in a different way with a tie from the planned midweek round 13 brought forward. Leigh Centurions' wait for a first win of the season continued as they lost out 30-20 to Wakefield Trinity at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.
Leigh opened the scoring with a Joe Mellor try which Ryan Brierley converted before adding a penalty goal for 8-0. Trinity responded with Jay Pitts and James Batchelor crossing for tries which Mason Lino converted for a 12-8 lead into the interval.
Wakefield extended their lead on 50 minutes with Joe Westerman going over and Lino converting for 18-8 before a double from Leigh either side of the hour mark cut the gap with Mellor scoring his second try ahead of a Lewis Tierney effort, Brierley converting twice for a 20-18 lead. However, Leigh's hopes of ending their losing run were scuppered late on as ex-Centurion back Liam Kay crossed with Lino converting before adding a try and conversion to complete a 30-20 victory.
