2021 Women's Challenge Cup Final Review

Saints Seal Cup Success Against City Knights

The opening tie of an historically televised triple-header at Leigh Sports Village saw St Helens Women avenge their 2019 semi final loss to win the 2021 Women's Challenge Cup with a 34-6 win over York City Knights Ladies.

Saints opened the scoring through Danielle Bush on 15 minutes coupled with a blow as Faye Gaskin suffered an injury in the action as they led 4-0. Rachel Woosey and Emily Rudge crossed to increase the lead further with Beth Stott converting the latter for 14-0. The lead stretched to 20-0 into the interval as Amy Hardcastle raced over to score with Stott successful for a second time.

York finally got on the board with 49 minutes played as Sinead Peach touched down and Rhiannion Marshall converted for 20-6 but Saints soon resumed control with Woosey claiming her second try ahead of efforts from Carrie Roberts and Paige Travis with Stott converting the latter for 34-6 as St Helens cruised to a first Challenge Cup title since four titles as Thatto Heath Crusaders from 2013-16.
