2021 Women's Super League Play-Offs Round One & Shield Round Three Review

After the bottom five began their extended season a fortnight ago, the top five began theirs last weekend with a full schedule in the Play-Offs and Shield. 

Rhinos Rally Against Tigers

The Play-Off opener saw Castleford Tigers Women lose out 28-6 to Leeds Rhinos Women at the Mend-A Hose Jungle. The Tigers struck first with Hollie Dodd crossing and Tara Jane Stanley converting for 6-0. Leeds replied through Keara Bennett with Courtney Winfield-Hill converting to level at 6-6 which is how they score remained into the interval.

Leeds went ahead with a self-converted effort score from Winfield-Hill for 12-6 before she added to penalty goals either side of the hour mark for an 18-6 advantage. The win was wrapped up for the Rhinos late on as Tara Moxon and Sophie Robinson both crossed with Winfield-Hill converting once for a 28-6 final score. 

Super Saints Stroll Against City Knights


St Helens Women eased to an 32-0 opening round win over York City Knights Ladies at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Saints opened the scoring through Zoe Harris with Beth Stott converting for 6-0 before Dani Bush touched down to extend the lead to 12-0. Carrie Roberts raced over for a rapid brace to send St Helens into the interval leading 18-0.

Roberts completed her hat-trick within a minute of the restart for 22-0 and from there the score remained until the final ten minutes when Saints wrapped up the win with an Amy Hardcastle try and Tara Jones score which Harris converted for a 32-0 final score. 

Wolves Win Against Bulls 


Warrington Wolves Women continued their good form with a 24-6 win over Bradford Bulls Women at Odsal Stadium. The Wolves opened up a 12-0 lead into the interval with tries from Hollie Jones and Georgia Sutherland which Michelle Davis converted. 

They extended the lead within a minute of the restart as Charlotte Melvin crossed and Davis converted for 18-0 but the Bulls hit back instantly with Cara Cookland touching down and Sarah Dunn converting for 18-6. The Wolves wrapped up the win late on with a Davis penalty goal and try from a player that sadly wasn't revealed for a 24-6 final score. 

Rovers Extend Perfect Start Against Giants

Featherstone Rovers Ladies continued their perfect start to the Shield section with a narrow 16-14 win over Huddersfield Giants Women at the Millennium Stadium. The Giants held a 14-0 lead at the interval with no scorers revealed aside from a Frankie Townend conversion. 

The Rovers rallied back superbly with Brogan Kennedy, Lauren Roberts and Brogan Churm all crossing for tries with and assuming Katie Hepworth and Jess Courtman converted once each for a 16-14 final score.

2021 Super League Round 20 Review

After Round 19 saw a rare full schedule, Round 20 also known as Rivals Round, saw the issues return with a COVID postponement for Warrington Wolves v Catalans Dragons.


Wolves/Dragons Dismay At Covid Postponement


Thursday's round opener was postponed earlier that day as Catalans Dragons suffered COVID issues which prevented them travelling to face Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.


Rhinos Derby Delight Against Giants


Thursday's action began with Leeds Rhinos edging an 18-12 win over Huddersfield Giants at Emerald Headingley Stadium. The hosts struck first with Ash Handley crossing for 4-0 before Will Pryce crossed for the visitors to level at 4-4. Leeds led 10-4 into the interval though as Richie Myler touched down and Handley converted.

Leeds extended the lead with two Harry Newman penalty goals for 14-4 before Rob Lui crossed to make it 18-4 on the hour mark. Hudds mounted a comeback with Sam Wood and Kyle Trout both crossing late on to set-up a frantic finish but Leeds held on for the 18-12 win. 

Saints Stroll Past Woeful Warriors


Friday night saw St Helens ease to a 26-2 derby win over Wigan Warriors in an ill-tempered battle at the DW Stadium. Saints struck first with a Regan Grace score which Lachlan Coote converted for 6-0 before both sides were reduced to 12 with the sin-binning of James Bentley and John Bateman. Wigan cut the gap as Harry Smith kicked a penalty for 2-6 with Saints going into the interval with a 12-2 lead after Lewis Dodd touched down and Coote converted.

Dodd increased the lead further with a penalty goal for 14-2 before a double blow for Wigan saw both Bateman and Isa sent to the sin-bin a few minutes apart with Saints capitalising on the man advantage as Mark Percival crossed for 18-2. The win was wrapped up late on with a Coote penalty goal and Alex Walmsley try which Coote converted for a 26-2 final score. 


Robins Rue As FC Edge Hull Derby


Saturday afternoon saw a tightly contested Hull derby with Hull FC edging a narrow 23-22 win over city rivals Hull Kingston Rovers. FC opened the scoring through Adam Swift for 4-0 before Jimmy Keinhorst levelled at 4-4. KR went ahead with a Rowan Milnes try which Ben Crooks converted for 10-4 before a Bureta Faraimo try saw Marc Sneyd convert to level at 10-10. FC regained the lead ahead of the interval with Carlos Tuimavave crossing and Sneyd converting for 16-10.

A self-converted score from Crooks levelled up at 16-16 before Faraimo claimed his second try for a 20-16 lead. Sneyd extended the lead with a penalty goal and drop goal for a 23-16 with KR setting up a frantic finish with Albert Vete crossing and Crooks converting but FC held on to seal the 23-22 win. 

Tigers Triumph Over Trinity


Castleford Tigers extended their streak over city rivals Wakefield Trinity with a 23-18 win at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Cas raced into a 12-0 lead after Greg Eden and Oliver Holmes crossed with Danny Richardson converting twice. Wakefield cut the gap to 12-6 with a Tinirau Arona effort which Mason Lino converted before Richardson added a penalty goal for 14-6. The lead became 19-6 at the interval after a Derrell Olpherts try and Richardson drop goal.

The Tigers were in full control after the restart with a second try from Eden extending the lead to 23-6 but they were pegged back after the hour mark as Tom Johnstone touched down with Lino converting before he improved a try from Lee Kershaw late on as Cas held on for the 23-18 win. 


Centurions Celebrate In Red Devils Defeat


Leigh Centurions finally got their first win of the season at the 17th attempt with a 32-22 victory over Salford Red Devils at Leigh Sports Village. The visitors struck first with Rhys Williams crossing for 4-0 inside two minutes before Joe Mellor levelled for Leigh with Craig Mullen converting for a 6-4 lead. The advantage increased with Keenan Brand touching down for 10-4 with Mullen adding a penalty goal for 12-4. Salford cut the gap with a Harvey Livett score for 12-8 with both sides exchanging penalty goals through Mullen and Krisnan Inu for 14-10 into the interval.

Inu improved a Ken Sio try for 16-14 just after the interval before Mullen added a trilogy of penalty goals either side of the hour mark to push the lead to 20-16 before he improved a Liam Hood score for 26-16 with five minutes remaining, the long awaited victory was confirmed on 78 minutes as Adam Sidlow crossed and Mullen converted for 32-16. Salford had the last say on the score though with Sio claiming his second score which Inu converted for a 32-22 final score.

2021 Women's Super League Shield Round Two Review

The Women's Super League Shield reached Round Two with Featherstone Rovers Ladies being the odd one out this week and as such having the week's rest.


Wire Trounce Trinity


Warrington Wolves Women bounced back from their opening round loss with a comfortable 76-0 win over Wakefield Trinity Ladies at Victoria Park. The Wolves took a huge 40-0 lead into the interval after a first half treble from Georgia Sutherland, brace from Sammy Simpson and scores from Abi Johnston, Charlie Magraw, Hollie Jones and Michelle Davis with Davis adding three conversions. 

Simpson completed her hat-trick after the interval with Sutherland crossing for her fourth soon after and a rapid Claire Mullaney treble as the Wolves continued to dominate and with Armani Sharrock and Emily Downs crossing late on, the hosts eased to a 76-0 final score. 

Giants Glory Against Battling Bulls


Huddersfield Giants Women extended their perfect start to the Shield campaign with a 32-10 win over Bradford Bulls Women at Lockwood Park on Tuesday evening. Hudds opened the scoring with Izzy Northrop crossing ahead of an effort from Erin Stott with Frankie Townend adding a conversion for 10-0. Bradford hit back with a try from Hannah Donald but would go into the interval 20-4 behind as Amelia Brown and Bethan Oates touched down with Townend adding a conversion.

The second half began with Oates claiming her second try with Brown crossing for 28-4. Cara Cookland crossed to cut the gap for the Bulls but their hopes were dashed as Brown complete her hat-trick to wrap up the 32-10 win. 

2021 Super League Round 19 Review

An historic round for the year as Round 19 became the first since Round nine to have a full schedule with no COVID issues. 


Terrific Tigers Stun Saints


The round opened on Thursday night as Castleford Tigers sealed a 20-10 win over St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The hosts opened the scoring with Jack Welsby crossing for 4-0 before Greg Eden went over for Cas with ex-Saints back Danny Richardson converting for 6-4. Richardson added a penalty goal before improving an effort from Oli Holmes for 14-4 into the interval. 

Both sides were reduced to 12 on the hour as Peter Mata'utia and James Bentley were sinbinned with Saints dropping to 11 a few minutes later with the sending off of Tommy Makinson. Despite their man disadvantage, Saints cut the gap with Alex Walmsley crossing and Lachlan Coote converting for 14-10 but the win, Cas' first in St Helens this century was wrapped up late on by Eden's second score which Richardson converted for a 20-10 final score.

Dragons Delight Against Hull FC


Catalans Dragons remain on top after a 31-16 win over Hull FC at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Friday evening. The Dragons struck first with Tom Davies crossing for 4-0 before FC hit back with a Carlos Tuimavave try which Ben McNamara converted before adding a penalty goal for 8-4. Catalans retook the lead with a second score from Davies with James Maloney converting for 10-8 but FC would lead into the interval as Bureta Faraimo went over with McNamara converting for 14-10.

Catalans hit back within four minutes of the restart through Fouad Yaha (Maloney conv) before McNamara levelled at 16-16 with a penalty goal. Maloney swept over a drop goal for 17-16 before improving efforts from Sam Tomkins and Julien Bousquet and kicking a late penalty goal to complete a 31-16 victory. 

Red Devils Double Over Giants


Salford Red Devils completed a double over ex-coach Ian Watson and his Huddersfield Giants with an 18-12 win at the AJ Bell Stadium. The Giants opened up an 8-0 lead with a Will Pryce penalty goal and Matty English try converted by Pryce followed up by Rhys Williams crossing for the hosts and Krisnan Inu converting for 8-6 into the interval.

Salford went ahead within three minutes of the restart as Tui Lolohea crossed for 10-8 but were quickly pegged back by a Pryce penalty goal for 10-10. Pryce added another penalty goal for 12-10 but Salford fought back with a Jack Ormondroyd try which Inu improved before sealing the win with a penalty goal for an 18-12 final score. 


Robins Seal Warriors Double

Hull Kingston Rovers secured a first ever Super League double over Wigan Warriors with a 26-14 win at Hull College Craven Park.  The Robins stormed into a 16-0 lead with scores from Albert Vete, Rowan Milnes and Ethan Ryan with Ben Crooks converting twice. Wigan cut the gap to 16-14 into the interval after a Jake Bibby try and brace from Liam Marshall saw Harry Smith convert to give the visitors hope. 

KR resumed the scoring just before the hour with Kane Linnett and Jez Litten both crossing and Crooks converting the latter for 26-14. The scoring ended there but the match saw a fiery end with Brad Takirangi, Matt Parcell and Liam Farrell all sinbinned in the final minutes. 

Rampant Rhinos Crush Centurions


Leeds Rhinos boosted their play-off hopes with a 46-10 win over Leigh Centurions at Leigh Sports Village. The Rhinos opened the scoring through Zane Tetevano with Rhyse Martin converting for 6-0 before Tom Briscoe crossed to make it 10-0. Leigh replied with a Matty Gee effort which Craig Mullen converted for 10-6 into the interval.

A second Briscoe score and Cam Smith try were converted by Martin within ten minutes of the restart for a 22-6 lead before Martin added a penalty goal for 24-6. Leigh cut the gap with a second score from Gee but it proved their last hope as Leeds wrapped up the win with tries from Rob Lui, Brad Dwyer, Ash Handley and Kruise Leeming coupled with Martin converting three of four attempts for a 46-10 final score. 

Trinity Triumph Against Wolves


Wakefield Trinity began the post-Chester era with a 28-22 win over Warrington Wolves at the Mobile Rocket Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Trinity raced into a 12-0 lead with tries from Tom Johnstone and David Fifita which Mason Lino converted for a two-score lead into the interval. 

The lead became 20-0 within 11 minutes of the restart as Lino crossed, converted and added a penalty goal before Wire finally got off the mark with a George Williams try which Stefan Ratchford converted for 26-6. Lee Kershaw (Lino conv) crossed for the hosts before the fightback resumed with Blake Austin, Jake Mamo and Josh Charnley all crossing with Ratchford converting twice for 26-22. The win as sealed late on as Lino swept over a penalty goal for a 28-22 final score.

2021 Women's Super League Shield Round One Review

After the regular season ended early with an enforced break, the season resumed with a 5/5 split with the top five of Leeds, St Helens, Wigan, York and Castleford facing off in the Play-Offs while Warrington, Featherstone, Huddersfield, Bradford and Wakefield will battle in the Shield which began this weekend. 

Giants Glory In Edging Past Wolves 


The round opened at Victoria Park as Warrington Wolves Women narrowly lost 28-26 to Huddersfield Giants Women. Hudds opened the scoring inside three minutes with Amelia Brown crossing for 4-0 before Georgia Sutherland's try levelled at 4-4. Warrington went ahead with Armani Pitt's score which Michelle Davis converted for 10-4 before Emily Downs crossed to increase the lead to 14-4. 

The Giants hit back with Brown's second try which Frankie Townend converted for 14-10 but the hosts ensured a half-time lead as Sutherland claimed her second try with Davis kicking for 20-10. A stunning second half comeback from Hudds saw Isabel Northrop cross twice either side of an Elychia Watson try and with Townend converting the lot they led 28-20. The Wolves cut the gap as Dani Bound crossed late on with Davis converting but it proved in vain as Hudds held on for the 28-26 win. 

Rampant Rovers Trounce Trinity

The second game of the round saw Featherstone Rovers Ladies ease to a 52-0 hammering of Wakefield Trinity Ladies at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. A rapid start from Rovers saw Brogan Kennedy, Lauren Roberts, Jess Courtman and Fran Copley all cross with Courtman adding a single conversion for an 18-0 lead after 30 mins. The lead increased to 28-0 into the interval as Chloe Billington and Liv Grace touched down with Katie Hepworth converting once. 

Courtman claimed her second try within two minutes of the restart before she improved a second try for Copley and completed her hat-trick with a self-converted score for a huge 44-0 advantage. Billington claimed her second try for 48-0 before a blank half hour saw the score unchanged until the final seconds when Cairo Newby crossed for a 52-0 final score.

2021 Super League Round 18 Review

Round 18 saw the COVID postponements continue with Warrington Wolves v Hull FC suffering in an other wise full schedule. 

Warriors Win Against Salford


The round opened at the DW Stadium as Wigan Warriors secured a 16-6 win over Salford Red Devils. The hosts struck first with Sam Halsall crossing for 4-0 before ex-Warriors winger Joe Burgess went over to level at 4-4. Both sides were reduced to 12 before the interval with Greg Johnson & Morgan Smithies in the sin-bin. Salford went into the interval ahead after a Harvey Livett penalty goal for 6-4.

Wigan levelled with a Harry Smith penalty goal for 6-6 before he added two more either side of the hour mark for 10-6. The win was sealed on 70 minutes as Sam Powell crossed and Smith converted for a 16-6 final score. 

Tigers Triumph Over Rhinos 

Castleford Tigers returned to action with a 32-18 win over Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley Stadium. The Tigers raced into a 14-0 lead with tries from Greg Eden and Peter Mata'utia with Danny Richardson converting twice and adding a penalty goal in-between. Leeds cut the gap to 14-6 into the interval with Robert Lui crossing and Rhyse Martin converting. 

Ash Handley (Martin conv) crossed to cut the gap further but the Rhinos comeback was halted there as Jordan Turner's try and a second from Eden saw Richardson convert twice for a huge 26-12 lead. Leeds reduced the deficit to 26-18 with Brad Dwyer touching down and Martin converting for 26-18 but Cas had the final say as ex-Rhinos forward Jimmy Keinhorst crossed and Richardson kicked his sixth success for a 32-18 final score. 

Saints Stun Dragons 


Catalans Dragons' superb winning run came to an end as they lost out 34-12 to St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Saints raced into an 18-0 lead with scores from Tommy Makinson, Lewis Dodd and Regan Grace with Lachlan Coote converting the lot. Catalans cut the gap through Mathieu Laguerre with James Maloney converting for 18-6. The lead moved to 20-6 into the interval as Coote kicked a penalty goal.

Saints extended the lead further before the hour mark as Joe Batchelor crossed and Coote converted for 26-6. The Dragons reached double figures with a Mickael Goudemand try which Maloney converted for 26-12 but it proved to be in vain as Coote kicked a penalty before crossing and converting for a 34-12 final score. 

Wolves/Hull FC Suffer COVID Postponement


The traditional postponement for this round saw Hull FC's trip to face Warrington Wolves cancelled due to COVID issues for the visitors.


Resilient
 Robins Deny Centurions 


Leigh Centurions' hopes of a first win of the season continue after an achingly close 34-28 loss to Hull Kingston Rovers at Leigh Sports Village. Leigh struck first with Junior Sau crossing for 4-0 before Kane Linnett replied for 4-4. Greg Minkin crossed to put the Robins 8-4 ahead before Shaun Kenny-Dowall touched down with Ben Crooks converting for a 14-4 lead. Mikey Lewis extended the lead to 18-4 with a try before a self-converted score from Craig Mullen cut the gap to 18-10 into the interval.

The two sides exchanged scores before the hour mark as Albert Vete (Crooks conv) and Adam Sidlow (Mullen conv made the score 24-16. Sau claimed his second try with Mullen converting for 24-22 and Leigh went ahead with after Mullen converted a second try from Sidlow for 28-24. However, the Robins battled back with a second try for Kenny-Dowall before Ryan Hall sealed the win with a try which Crooks converted for a 34-28 final score. 

Giants Glory As Trinity Toppled

The round ended at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday as Huddersfield Giants edged a 22-18 win over Wakefield Trinity. An early blow for the Giants saw Oliver Russell sinbinned inside two minutes with Trinity taking full advantage to open up an 18-0 lead with scores from Reece Lyne, Joe Westerman and a self-converted try from Ryan Hampshire who converted the lot. Hudds cut the gap through Lewis Senior for 18-4 before Sam Wood's try and Will Pryce's conversion made it 18-10 into the interval.

A brace from Jermaine McGillvary either side of the hour mark levelled the score at 18-18 before Hudds completed the comeback as Jake Wardle crossed to seal a 22-18 win.

2021 Super League Round 16 and 17 Review

A double post covering both Rounds 16 and 17 due to the packed schedule which sadly saw more COVID related postponements.


Wire Win Against Warriors

Round 16 opened with Warrington Wolves winning 21-8 against Wigan Warriors at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Wednesday evening. Wigan struck first with Liam Marshall crossing for 4-0 before a Blake Austin try and Stefan Ratchford conversion put the hosts 6-4 ahead. Marshall crossed for his second try for 8-6 before Josh Thewlis went over with Ratchford kicking for a 12-8 half-time lead. 

Ratchford extended the lead to 14-8 with a penalty goal before Jake Mamo continued his run against Wigan with a try which Ratchford improved for 20-8. The win was wrapped up late on as Austin swept over a drop goal for a 21-8 final score. 


Saints V Giants Suffers COVID Postponement

Another round that saw a postponement as St Helens hosting of Huddersfield Giants saw the Saints issues with COVID continue.

 Rhinos Halt Hull FC

Thursday night saw Leeds Rhinos boost their play-off hopes with a 22-12 victory over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. The Rhinos struck first with Rhyse Martin's penalty goal for 2-0 before Adam Swift crossed for the hosts to make it 4-2. Martin levelled with another penalty goal for 4-4 but FC led into the interval after Marc Sneyd kicked a penalty goal late in the half for 6-4.

Leeds regained the lead on the hour mark as Brad Dwyer crossed and Martin converted for 10-6 before he improved efforts from Richie Myler and Cameron Smith for a 22-6 advantage. The hosts cut the gap late through Carlos Tuimavave's try which Sneyd converted but it proved consolation in the 22-12 final score. 

Red Devils v Robins Suffers COVID Postponement

Another postponement as Salford Red Devils hosting of Hull Kingston Rovers saw the Red Devils' issues with COVID continue. 

Dragons Delight In Toppling Trinity

Catalans Dragons extended their hold on top spot with a comfortable 40-20 win over Wakefield Trinity at Stade Gilbert Brutus. 

The Dragons struck first with Sam Tomkins crossing and James Maloney converting for 6-0 before Yusuf Aydin's try and Mason Lino's conversion levelled at 6-6. Maloney kicked a penalty goal for 8-6 ahead of David Fifita crossing with Lino improving the score for a 12-8 Trinity lead. Catalans battled back with efforts from Alrix Da Costa and Sam Kasiano which Maloney improved for 20-12 into the interval. 

Lino cut the gap to 20-14 within five minutes of the restart but Catalans restored the gap through Maloney's penalty goal and he went on to improve a Gil Dudson try for a huge 28-14 lead. Wakefield cut the deficit again with Fifita's second try which Lino converted for 28-20 but the Dragons wrapped up the win with a late Fouad Yaha brace with Maloney reaching eight successes with the boot in a 40-20 final score. 

Centurions V Tigers Suffers COVID Postponement

The final game of the round saw Leigh Centurions hosting of Castleford Tigers postponed as alike their CC final opponents, Castleford's issues with COVID continued.

As Warriors Crush Centurions

Round 17 began on Sunday afternoon as Wigan Warriors eased to a 50-6 win over Leigh Centurions at the DW Stadium. Wigan struck first with Tommy Leuluai crossing and Harry Smith converting for 60 inside four minutes. Leigh replied with a Liam Hood try which Jamie Ellis converted for 6-6 before Umyla Hanley (Smith conv) went over to restore the lead for Wigan at 12-6. Both sides were reduced to 12 on 16 minutes with Brad Singleton and Jack Ashworth both dismissed after a scuffle. Liam Farrell crossed twice either side of a second score from Hanley with Smith converting all but the latter for a comfortable 28-6 lead into the interval.

An emotional try for Sam Halsall, his first for Wigan saw Smith improve the lead to 34-6 before Joe Shorrocks and Jackson Hastings both crossed after the hour mark with Smith improving the latter for 44-6. The hosts rounded off the win with a hat-trick try for Hanley late on with Smith reaching eight successes with the boot in a 50-6 final score. 

Williams Seals Wire Win Over Rhinos

Warrington Wolves continued their good form with a narrow 27-26 win over Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley Stadium. Leeds opened the scoring with a Harry Newman try which Rhyse Martin converted for a 6-0 lead that was soon levelled by Mike Cooper's try and Stefan Ratchford's conversion. The sides exchanged scores again as Mikolaj Oledzki (Martin conv) went over before Blake Austin touched down and Ratchford converted for 12-12. Leeds ensured an 18-12 lead into the interval though as Brad Dwyer went over with Martin converting. 

Josh Charnley (Ratchford conv) crossed to level the scores at 18-18 before a penalty goal each for Ratchford and Martin moved the score to 20-20. Leeds looked to have sealed the win with Newman's second score which Martin improved for 26-20 but a late try from Dan Walker saw Ratchford convert for 26-26 and surely force Golden Point Extra Time. However, Wire debutant George Williams stole the headlines in the final seconds as he swept over a drop goal to seal a famous 27-26 win for the Wolves. 

Giants Glory Against Troubled Tigers

Huddersfield Giants returned to action with instant success as they won 34-16 against Castleford Tigers at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Hudds opened the scoring through Leroy Cudjoe with Oliver Russell converting for 6-0 before Paul McShane crossed and converted to level at 6-6. Cudjoe struck for a second time with Russell kicking for 12-6 before he improved a Nathaniel Peteru try and added a penalty goal for a comfortable 20-6 lead into the interval. 

Brad Graham crossed to cut the gap to 20-10 before Russell added a penalty goal for 22-12 and Hudds wrapped up the win with two tries in six minutes as Luke Yates and Jermaine McGillvary both crossed with Russell converting twice before adding a sixth success with the boot for 34-10. The Tigers had the final say with Jake Sweeting touching down and McShane converting for a 34-16 final score. 

Dragons Secure Robins Double

After a close game in the recent reverse meeting, Catalans Dragons were made to battle again for a 23-16 win over Hull Kingston Rovers at Hull College Craven Park. A scoreless first half hour came to an end with a James Maloney penalty goal for the visitors that made it 2-0 with Jordan Abdull levelling with a penalty goal for 2-2. The Dragons would go into the interval ahead though as Sam Tomkins crossed for the first try of the game with Maloney converting before Abdull cut the gap to an 8-4 half-time lead. 

The Dragons opened up a two score lead with Samisoni Langi's try with James Maloney converting for 14-4. Adam Quinlan (Abdull conv) made it 14-10 before Catalans looked to have the win wrapped up with a second Tomkins score which Maloney converted before adding a penalty and drop goal for 23-10. The Robins set up a tense finish though with a second Quinlan try and Abdull conversion cutting the gap to 23-16 which is how it ended.

Saints Stroll Past Faltering FC

St Helens returned to action with instant success in a 42-10 win over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium on Monday evening. The visitors opened the scoring through Joel Thompson inside four minutes ahead of Tommy Makinson crossing and Lachlan Coote kicking a penalty goal for a 10-0 lead. Saints moved to 16-0 with Jack Welsby touching down and Coote converting before ex-Saints winger Adam Swift crossed to make it 16-4 into the interval.

Bureta Faraimo cut the gap for the hosts with a try which Marc Sneyd converted for 16-10 before a blow for FC saw Jordan Johnstone sent to the sin-bin. Saints utilised the advantage with a Coote penalty goal and tries for Kyle Amor and Kevin Naiqama which Coote improved for 30-10. FC's woes continued with a return to 12 men as Ligi Sao was then sent to the bin and Saints rounded off the win with two more Welsby scores for his hat-trick with Coote reaching seven successes with the boot for a 42-10 final score.
