2021 Women's Super League Play-Offs Round One & Shield Round Three Review

After the bottom five began their extended season a fortnight ago, the top five began theirs last weekend with a full schedule in the Play-Offs and Shield.

Rhinos Rally Against Tigers

The Play-Off opener saw Castleford Tigers Women lose out 28-6 to Leeds Rhinos Women at the Mend-A Hose Jungle. The Tigers struck first with Hollie Dodd crossing and Tara Jane Stanley converting for 6-0. Leeds replied through Keara Bennett with Courtney Winfield-Hill converting to level at 6-6 which is how they score remained into the interval.

Leeds went ahead with a self-converted effort score from Winfield-Hill for 12-6 before she added to penalty goals either side of the hour mark for an 18-6 advantage. The win was wrapped up for the Rhinos late on as Tara Moxon and Sophie Robinson both crossed with Winfield-Hill converting once for a 28-6 final score.

Super Saints Stroll Against City Knights

St Helens Women eased to an 32-0 opening round win over York City Knights Ladies at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Saints opened the scoring through Zoe Harris with Beth Stott converting for 6-0 before Dani Bush touched down to extend the lead to 12-0. Carrie Roberts raced over for a rapid brace to send St Helens into the interval leading 18-0.

Roberts completed her hat-trick within a minute of the restart for 22-0 and from there the score remained until the final ten minutes when Saints wrapped up the win with an Amy Hardcastle try and Tara Jones score which Harris converted for a 32-0 final score.

Wolves Win Against Bulls

Warrington Wolves Women continued their good form with a 24-6 win over Bradford Bulls Women at Odsal Stadium. The Wolves opened up a 12-0 lead into the interval with tries from Hollie Jones and Georgia Sutherland which Michelle Davis converted.

They extended the lead within a minute of the restart as Charlotte Melvin crossed and Davis converted for 18-0 but the Bulls hit back instantly with Cara Cookland touching down and Sarah Dunn converting for 18-6. The Wolves wrapped up the win late on with a Davis penalty goal and try from a player that sadly wasn't revealed for a 24-6 final score.

Rovers Extend Perfect Start Against Giants

Featherstone Rovers Ladies continued their perfect start to the Shield section with a narrow 16-14 win over Huddersfield Giants Women at the Millennium Stadium. The Giants held a 14-0 lead at the interval with no scorers revealed aside from a Frankie Townend conversion.

The Rovers rallied back superbly with Brogan Kennedy, Lauren Roberts and Brogan Churm all crossing for tries with and assuming Katie Hepworth and Jess Courtman converted once each for a 16-14 final score.
