After the regular season ended early with an enforced break, the season resumed with a 5/5 split with the top five of Leeds, St Helens, Wigan, York and Castleford facing off in the Play-Offs while Warrington, Featherstone, Huddersfield, Bradford and Wakefield will battle in the Shield which began this weekend.
Giants Glory In Edging Past Wolves
The round opened at Victoria Park as Warrington Wolves Women narrowly lost 28-26 to Huddersfield Giants Women. Hudds opened the scoring inside three minutes with Amelia Brown crossing for 4-0 before Georgia Sutherland's try levelled at 4-4. Warrington went ahead with Armani Pitt's score which Michelle Davis converted for 10-4 before Emily Downs crossed to increase the lead to 14-4.
The Giants hit back with Brown's second try which Frankie Townend converted for 14-10 but the hosts ensured a half-time lead as Sutherland claimed her second try with Davis kicking for 20-10. A stunning second half comeback from Hudds saw Isabel Northrop cross twice either side of an Elychia Watson try and with Townend converting the lot they led 28-20. The Wolves cut the gap as Dani Bound crossed late on with Davis converting but it proved in vain as Hudds held on for the 28-26 win.
Rampant Rovers Trounce Trinity
The second game of the round saw Featherstone Rovers Ladies ease to a 52-0 hammering of Wakefield Trinity Ladies at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. A rapid start from Rovers saw Brogan Kennedy, Lauren Roberts, Jess Courtman and Fran Copley all cross with Courtman adding a single conversion for an 18-0 lead after 30 mins. The lead increased to 28-0 into the interval as Chloe Billington and Liv Grace touched down with Katie Hepworth converting once.
Courtman claimed her second try within two minutes of the restart before she improved a second try for Copley and completed her hat-trick with a self-converted score for a huge 44-0 advantage. Billington claimed her second try for 48-0 before a blank half hour saw the score unchanged until the final seconds when Cairo Newby crossed for a 52-0 final score.
