The recent disruption continued into round 12 with Castleford/St Helens cancelled and the Hull derby moved to later in the month.
Tigers Troubles Gift Saints Victory
An early blow to the round schedule came as Castleford Tigers had to forfeit due to injuries and isolations preventing them fielding a team against St Helens. The Saints were awarded a 24-0 win as a result.
Wolves Win Over Weakened Warriors
The first action of the round saw Warrington Wolves cruise to a 40-14 win over Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium. Wire opened the scoring with Connor Wrench crossing and Stefan Ratchford converting before Wigan gifted Jake Mamo a try which Ratchford improved for 12-0. Matt Davis (Ratchford conv) extended the lead further as he crossed for 18-0 before Wigan finally got on the board with Sam Powell diving over and Harry Smith converting for 18-6 into the interval.
Mamo claimed his second try via another gifted pass within three minutes of the restart, Ratchford kicking for 24-6 before Willie Isa and Oliver Gildart crossed to cut the gap to 24-14. Warrington took control from there though with ex-Warrior Jack Hughes and Ben Currie crossing with Ratchford adding a conversion for 34-14. Wigan's woes continued late on with a short drop-out falling for Mamo to complete his hat-trick and Ratchford kicking to round off the 40-14 rout.
Covid Causes Red Devils/Trinity Postponement
The COVID virus continued to dent the schedule with Salford Red Devils hosting of Wakefield Trinity postponed due to the Red Devils having a number of cases which led to many isolations.
Dragons Delight In Hudds Humbling
Thursday's first action came from the John Smith's Stadium as Catalans Dragons extended their hold on top spot with a 50-12 win over Huddersfield Giants. Catalans dominated the first half with a 20-0 lead thanks to tries from Ben Jullien, Mike McMeeken and Samisoni Langi with James Maloney adding a penalty goal and three conversions.
Huddersfield got off the mark on 45 minutes with Ashton Golding crossing and Oliver Russell converting for 20-6 but Catalans resumed control with scores from Ben Garcia, Arthur Mourgue, Sam Tomkins and Maloney with Maloney converting the lot for 44-6. Huddersfield ended the Dragons spree with a Jake Wardle try which Russell converted before Tom Davies crossed for the league leaders late on with Maloney kicking a ninth success with the boot for a 50-12 full-time score-line.
Rampant Rhinos Crush Centurions
The action ended with Leeds Rhinos extending the losing run of Leigh Centurions with a 48-18 win at Emerald Headingley Stadium. Leigh struck first with Matt Russell crossing inside three minutes and Ryan Brierley converting for 6-0. Leeds replied with James Donaldson touching down and Rhyse Martin levelling at 6-6 with the boot. Leeds went ahead with a four minute brace from Jack Broadbent for 14-6 before efforts from Kruise Leeming and Liam Sutcliffe saw Martin convert once a 24-6 lead into the interval.
Leigh cut the gap to 24-12 with Mark Ioane crossing and Brierley converting with 49 minutes played before Jack Broadbent wrapped up his hat-trick and Sam Walters crossed (Martin conv) for 36-12. Leigh stemmed the spree with a self-converted effort from Brierley before Broadbent crossed for a fourth time and Tom Holroyd went over late on with Martin ending the night with six successes in the 48-18 win.
Hull Derby Delayed Due To COVID
Hull Kingston Rovers' wait to return to action continued as their huge derby against Hull FC saw a move to the 15th July due to the Robins' continuing COVID issues.
