2021 Super League Round 15 Part One Review & Round 13 Part Three

Another split post as Round 13 reached eventual completion after Catalans Dragons/Hull KR agreed to play due to their Round 15 games against Castleford Tigers/St Helens being postponed.

Giants Glory In Halting Hull FC

The round opened on Thursday as Huddersfield Giants returned to winning ways with a 40-26 win over Hull FC at the John Smith's Stadium. Hull opened the scoring inside four minutes through Carlos Tuimavave with Marc Sneyd converting for 6-0. Hudds hit back rapidly with tries from Jermaine McGillvary and Nathan Peats with an Oliver Russell conversion putting them 10-6 ahead. Hull regained the lead with scores from Miteli Vulikijapani and Jordan Lane and a Sneyd conversion for 16-10. The lead changed hands again as Hudds cut the gap and then went into the interval 22-16 ahead after tries from Luke Yates, Will Pryce and a second for McGillvary.

McGillvary completed his hat-trick soon after the restart with Russell kicking to extend the advantage to 28-16 before Vulikijapani claimed his second score for 28-20. A fourth score from McGillvary (Russell conv) looked to put Hudds out of sight and they were for sure when Leroy Cudjoe marked his 300th appearance with a try which Russell improved for 40-20. The final say went to Hull as Chris Satae crossed late on with Sneyd converting for a 40-26 final score.

Covid Issues Continue For Wire

The ongoing threat of the COVID pandemic saw Warrington Wolves' trip to face Leigh Centurions postponed leaving the Centurions still waiting for their first win of the season.

Bibby's Warrior Treble Topples Trinity

Friday's action began at the DW Stadium as Wigan Warriors sealed consecutive home wins with a 25-12 success over Wakefield Trinity. A close first half saw Wigan lead 9-0 at the interval after a Jake Bibby brace and last-gasp drop goal from Jackson Hastings.

Bibby completed his hat-trick early in the second half with Harry Smith converting for 15-0 lead before improving a Joe Shorrocks try for 21-0. Liam Marshall crossed to wrap up the win on the hour at 25-0 before a late rally from Wakefield saw James Batchelor and Jay Pitts both touch down with Mason Lino converting twice for a 25-12 final score.

Rhinos Rout Red Devils

Friday's other action came from Emerald Headingley Stadium as Leeds Rhinos eased to a 38-16 win over Salford Red Devils. Leeds raced into a 20-0 first half advantage as Harry Newman crossed ahead of a brace from Kruise Leeming with Rhyse Martin converting the lot and adding a penalty goal.

Salford got off the mark with a Ken Sio try for 20-4 before Leeds resumed their spree with Callum McLelland and King Vuniyayawa crossing and Martin converting twice for 32-4. Salford stemmed the spree with ex-Rhinos half Tui Lolohea crossing and Krisnan Inu converting for 32-10. Leeds wrapped up the win with Matt Prior's try which Martin improved for 38-10. The final say of the evening when to Inu as he crossed and converted for a 38-16 final score.

Catalans Comeback As Robins Return

After several different instances for the six matches, Round 13 saw completion on Saturday at Stade Gilbert Brutus as Catalan Dragons extended their stay at the top with a third consecutive comeback win as they edged a 32-30 win over a Hull Kingston Rovers side playing their first match in a month.

The Robins opened the scoring with a self-converted score from Jordan Abdull for 6-0 before Matt Whitley crossed and Arthur Mourgue converted to level at 6-6. Shaun Kenny-Dowall restored the lead for KR with Abdull converting for 12-12 but again the Dragons replied as Sam Tomkins crossed and Mourgue converted. Abdull made it 14-12 win a penalty goal before improving efforts from Greg Minikin and Adam Quinlan for a huge 26-12 half-time advantage.

As with their previous two games, Catalans mounted a comeback with Whitley claiming his second try but KR hit back with Abdull's second score for 30-18. The Dragons were unstoppable from there with Mickael Goudemand and Fouad Yaha both crossing with Mourgue levelling the score at 30-30 with two conversions. He sealed the win with a sixth success of the afternoon with the boot for 32-30.

2021 Women's Super League Round Nine Review

Another round with some issues sadly as the Women's Super League reached round nine which saw two cancellations rather than postponements due to sides unable to field a team. At the time of writing this is the final round with the planned Round 10 cancelled in order to give teams a break ahead of the end of season split.

Saints/Leeds Awarded Walkover Wins

The aforementioned cancellations saw St Helens Women awarded a 24-0 win due to Wakefield Trinity Ladies being unable to field a team and Leeds Rhinos Women awarded a 24-0 win due to Huddersfield Giants Women's inability to field a team.

Stanley Stars As Tigers Defeat Wolves

Castleford Tigers Women ensured a top five spot as they eased to a 48-12 win over Warrington Wolves Women at Victoria Park. The Tigers went 12-0 ahead early on with Tara-Jane Stanley and Georgia Roche crossing with Stanley converting twice. Warrington responded with scores from Georgia Sutherland and Charlize Magraw to cut the gap to 12-8. The Tigers led at the interval as Hollie Dodd went in with Stanley kicking for 18-8.

Dodd claimed her second score after the restart with Stanley converting before scoring a second try of her own for 28-8. Evelyn Vaiglu crossed to extend the lead further before Sutherland went over for her second 32-12. Stanley crossed twice more to surpass her hat-trick with Dodd sealing her own treble and with Stanley converting all but the latter to complete the 48-12 win.

Rovers Claim Natalie Harrowell Cup Against Bulls

Featherstone Rovers Ladies celebrated a 42-12 win over Bradford Bulls Women as they claimed the Natalie Harrowell Cup named in memorial of the Rovers forward who sadly passed away two years ago. Rovers struck first with Hannah Watt crossing for 4-0 before Grace Ramsden levelled for the Bulls at 4-4. Sam Herrick went in to make it 8-4 to the Bulls before Chloe Billington crossed for the hosts and Katie Hepworth converted for 10-8. Tiegan Ramsden restored the Bulls lead at 12-10 before Jess Courtman crossed to ensure the hosts led 14-12 into the interval.

Courtman claimed her second try seven minutes after the restart for 18-12 before Cairo Newby, Lauren Roberts and a Brogan Churm brace sealed a huge win for Rovers with Hepworth adding four conversions for the 42-12 win.

Knights Hold Off Warriors

Monday's Twitch pick saw York City Knights Ladies win 12-4 against Wigan Warriors Women at Odsal. York opened the scoring early on with Kelsey Gentles crossing and Emma Hardy converting for 6-0. Wigan replied just before the interval through Georgia Wilson but a missed conversion left them 6-4 behind.

York regained a two-score lead on the hour with a self-converted effort from Hardy for 12-4 which is how it ended.

As mentioned above, the season takes a break until the 5/5 split which will begin in early August.

2021 Challenge Cup Final Review

After a shortened format for 2021 due to the pandemic, the Challenge Cup Final took place this weekend as the first in July since the planned move from the traditional August date.

Saints Seal Cup Success Against Tigers

St Helens ended a wait of 13 years to win their 13th Challenge Cup as they sealed a 26-12 win over Castleford Tigers at Wembley Stadium. The Saints struck first with Theo Fages crossing and Lachlan Coote converting for 6-0 before Cas hit back through Niall Evalds with Gareth O'Brien kicking to level at 6-6. The Tigers went into the interval ahead after a Jake Trueman try saw O'Brien kicking them into a 12-6 lead.

Saints levelled within a minute of the restart as James Roby went in and Coote converted to draw level at 12-12. They went ahead on 52 minutes as Tommy Makinson crossed for 16-12 before two penalty goals from Coote after the hour mark looked to seal the win at 20-12. The win and the trophy were sealed late on as Kyle Amor dived over and Coote converted for 26-12.

2021 Super League Rounds 9,10 & 12 Review Part Two

Due to the recent COVID issues and it being Challenge Cup Final weekend, Super League saw three rounds of re-arranged games take place. However, more issues surfaced which meant that the round 12 derby between Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull FC was postponed yet again.

Warriors Hold Off Giants

Round nine resumed on Friday night as Wigan Warriors made it two wins in the same week over Huddersfield Giants with a 14-12 success at the John Smith's Stadium. A close first half in the heat saw just a single score as Mitch Clark crossed for the Warriors with Harry Smith converting for a 6-0 lead into the interval.

Smith extended the lead to 8-0 with a penalty goal before Hudds got off the mark with a Will Pryce try and Oli Russell conversion for 8-6. Wigan looked to have the win sealed on 70 minutes as Liam Farrell crossed and Smith converted for a 14-6 advantage that was soon cut by Nathaniel Peteru's effort which Russell improved for what was a 14-12 final score.

Dragons Double Delight Over Rhinos

Round ten also resumed on Friday evening with Catalans Dragons extending their lead at the top with a second comeback win in the same week over Leeds Rhinos with a 27-18 victory at the Stade Gilbert Brutus. The Dragons opened the scoring with an Arthur Mourgue penalty goal for 2-0 before a Tom Briscoe brace and Kruise Leeming try saw Luke Gale convert the lot for an 18-2 advantage into the interval for the Rhinos.

The meeting between the sides last weekend saw Catalans stage a comeback and history repeated itself as Sam Kasiano, Matt Whitley and Tom Davies all crossed with a self-converted score from Mourgue and two conversions turning the game around to 24-18. Sam Tomkins swept over a drop goal for 25-18 with Mourgue wrapping up the win with a penalty for five successes with the boot in the 27-18 win.

Hull Derby Down Due to Covid

The long awaited Hull derby was delayed again due to Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull FC both dealing with COVID issues.

Red Devils Topple Trinity

Round 12 resumed with Salford Red Devils claiming a 24-14 win over Wakefield Trinity at the AJ Bell Stadium. Trinity raced into a 12-0 lead with tries from Innes Senior and Reece Lyne both converted by Mason Lino. Salford replied with a Morgan Escare try and self-converted score from Krisnan Inu who also converted the former score for 12-12 into the interval.

Lino kicked a penalty goal to restore Trinity's lead at 14-12 but they soon went behind as Inu struck again with self-converted score before adding a penalty goal for 20-14 with 12 minutes remaining. The hosts wrapped up the win three minutes later as Ken Sio crossed for a 24-14 final score.

2021 Women's Super League Round Eight Review

Alike the Men's Super League, the Women's continues to have a mixed schedule in round eight but for a change it was a lack of medical cover rather than COVID issues that forced postponements with Huddersfield Giants Women/ Castleford Tigers Women called off while York City Knights Ladies/Warrington Wolves Women moved to Tuesday.

Medical Issues Halt Hudds/Cas

As mentioned above, for the second time this season a double header at the Mobile Rocket Stadium was cancelled due to lack of medial cover meaning Huddersfield Giants Women v Castleford Tigers Women was postponed until later in the season.

Strong Saints Rout Rovers

The round officially began with St Helens Women easing to a 78-0 win over Featherstone Rovers Ladies at Victoria Park. A rapid start for Saints saw Carrie Roberts, Jodie Cunningham and Chantelle Crowl all cross early on with Beth Stott converting twice for a 16-0 lead. Crowl and Roberts completed braces ahead of efforts from Dani Bush and Rebecca Rotherham and with Stott adding a single conversion, Saints went into the interval with a strong 36-0 lead.

Zoe Harris resumed the Saints spree with Stott converting before improving a second Cunningham score and Emily Rudge try to bring up the 50 point mark at 54-0. Rachel Woosey got in on the scoring with a try before Roberts and Cunningham wrapped up their hat-tricks and Rudge crossed for her second try, Stott adding two conversions for 74-0. The final say on the score-line went to Leah Burke as she crossed late on to complete the 78-0 win.

Rhinos Win Battle of Perfection Over Warriors

The second game of the afternoon at Victoria Park saw the battle of perfection as Leeds Rhinos Women extended their perfect start by halting the one of Wigan Warriors Women with a 28-6 win. Leeds raced into a 10-0 lead inside the opening quarter with Fran Goldthorp and Tara Moxon both crossing and Courtney Winfield-Hill converting once. Wigan got off the mark with a Victoria Molyneux score which Amy Boardman converted for 10-6 and Leeds regained their 10 point lead into the interval as Goldthorp crossed for a second time with Winfield-Hill converting.

The second half saw the Rhinos wrap up the win with tries from Eloise Hayward and a second from Moxon both converted by Winfield-Hill for a 28-6 final score.

Bose Quartet Sees Bulls Trounce Trinity

Monday's Twitch pick saw Bradford Bulls Women use home advantage to good effect with a 46-6 win over Wakefield Trinity Ladies at Odsal Stadium. The Bulls raced into a 16-0 lead inside the opening quarter with a Danielle Bose brace and Stacey Greenwood try which saw Sarah Dunn convert twice from three attempts. Millie Taylor crossed ahead of Bose completing her hat-trick and Kacy Haley going over (Dunn conv) for a huge 30-0 lead into the interval.

The win was wrapped up by a Linda McLean score on the wing before a superb fourth from Bose and the try of the evening for Greenwood's second with Dunn and Grace Ramsden adding conversions for 46-0. Trinity avoided the nilling though with the final say as Olivia Whitehead raced over and Lisa Taylor converted for a 46-6 final score.

City Knights Cruise Against Wolves

Tuesday evening saw the aforementioned re-arranged game take place at Victoria Park as York City Knights Ladies stormed to a 62-0 win over Warrington Wolves Women. York opened up a 12-0 lead early on with Sinead Peach and Tamzin Renouf crossing and Emma Hardy converting twice. The Wolves did well to keep the score to 12-0 until two scores in three minutes from Savannah Andrade and Renouf saw Hardy improve both for a 24-0 half-time lead.

The second half saw the visitors dominate with Katie Langan, Rhiannion Marshall and Katie Clayton all crossing before the hour mark and Hardy continuing her success with the boot for 42-0. Peach claimed her second try with Hardy converting before adding a try of her own for 52-0. The rout was completed with a Kelsey Gentles try (Hardy conv) and Grace Field score to wrap up the 62-0 win.

2021 Super League Round 14 Review

Round 14 sadly saw the schedule affected by the ongoing COVID situation with the clashes between Hull Kingston Rovers/Warrington Wolves & Hull FC/Leigh Centurions both postponed.

Coote Control As Saints Topple Trinity

The round opened on Friday night as St Helens prepped for the upcoming Challenge Cup final perfectly with a 30-14 win over Wakefield Trinity at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. The visitors struck first with Mark Percival crossing inside 12 minutes with Lachlan Coote converting for 6-0. Coote added a penalty goal before improving a try from Lewis Dodd to extend the advantage to 14-0. Wakefield got off the mark with a Lee Kershaw try for 14-4 before Coote added another penalty goal to make it 16-4. The gap became a single score into the interval after Innes Senior went over and Mason Lino converted for 16-10.

Senior cut the gap further with his second try of the evening on 50 minutes for 16-14 before Coote kicked his third penalty of the game and added a self-converted try in a two minute spell to open up a 24-14 lead that ended at 30-14 with Tommy Makinson's late try which Coote improved for seven successes with the boot.

Catalans Comeback Ruins Rhinos Hopes

The first of two double clashes across this round and the re-arranged one saw Leeds Rhinos lose out 26-18 to Catalans Dragons at the Emerald Headingley Stadium with the reverse meeting planned for next Friday. The Dragons opened the scoring with a James Maloney penalty goal for 2-0 before he improved an Arthur Mourgue try to open up an 8-0 lead. Leeds responded superbly with a self-converted try from Rhyse Martin who then improved an effort from Bodene Thompson to put the hosts ahead at 12-8. The Rhinos extended their lead to 18-8 into the interval with Liam Sutcliffe crossing and Martin converting for a third time.

The second half though belonged to the Dragons as they kept their hosts scoreless while mounting a successful comeback as Matt Whitley and Fouad Yaha crossed either side of a try for Maloney with Mourgue converting the lot to seal a 28-16 victory and keep them clear at the top.

Giants Gutted After Warriors Winning Comeback

The second of the double clashes saw Wigan Warriors finally return to winning ways with a 16-12 victory over Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium. The two sides will meet in the re-arranged reverse clash on Friday evening and Wigan will hope to start that better than this as they fell 12-0 behind early on. Chris McQueen and Leroy Cudjoe both crossed for tries which were converted by ex-Warriors Academy half Oliver Russell they looked to be keeping the host scoreless for the first half until Liam Marshall raced over late on with Harry Smith converting for 12-6 into the interval.

Wigan continued their comeback in the second half and kept Hudds scoreless with Mitch Clark opening his Warriors account for 12-10 before a self-converted try from Smith completed the comeback and wrapped up the 16-12 win.

Rampant Red Devils Rout Youthful Tigers

Ahead of the Challenge Cup final, Castleford Tigers made sweeping changes and saw their youthful line-up outclassed in a 70-18 hammering by Salford Red Devils at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. The Tigers opened the scoring through Grant Millington who's try was converted by Danny Richardson for a 6-0 lead that was levelled by Jack Ormondroyd's score which Krisnan Inu converted. Salford went ahead with an Oliver Roberts try (Inu conv) before Morgan Escare and Rhys Williams both crossed with Inu converting the former for a 22-6 half-time advantage.

Cas cut the gap to 22-12 with a Brad Martin try which Richardson converted before Salford resumed control with Ken Sio, Declan Patton, Matty Costello's efforts and a second score from Escare all being converted by Inu for a huge 46-12 lead before the hour mark. Chris Atkin (Inu conv) crossed to bring up the 50 point mark but Cas quelled the spree with an Alex Foster try (Richardson conv) but Salford ran in three more tries in the final five minutes with scores from Dan Norman and Ben Davies followed by a second try from Williams with Inu ending with a record of 11/12 with the boot for the 70-18 win.

Covid Woes Continue For Hull Duo

As mentioned above, the round saw two postponements which saw both Hull sides continue their wait to return to action.

Hull KR's COVID crisis came to an end but it was their opponents Warrington Wolves who suffered the blow this time around that forced postponement.

Hull FC's woes continued leaving Leigh Centurions' wait for a first win extended/

Fan Appreciation Shirt Finally !

After the disappointment of my Cut-out going missing sometime between its final display at the 2020 SL PO Semi Final and the date in March when they were all available for collection.

Finally some good news as last week I took collection (via my attending friend) of the long awaited Fan Appreciation Shirt. The shirt is the reward for donating last seasons ST money which was then sadly delayed due to shipping and COVID issues. A great idea that will be good to look back on in years to come.

2021 Women's Super League Round Seven Review

Alike the Men's Super League, the COVID crisis continued to affect the Women's Super League with one tie cancelled in round seven. (York City Knights Ladies v Bradford Bulls Women).

Rampant Rhinos Win Against Wolves

The round opened on Sunday with current leaders Leeds Rhinos Women easing to a 56-0 win over Warrington Wolves Women at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. The Rhinos raced into an 18-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes as Hanna Butcher, Eloise Hayward, Tara Moxon and Keara Bennett all crossed for tries which saw Courtney Winfield-Hill converting only the opening score. Moxon completed her hat-trick with Winfield-Hill converting the second of her scores with the Rhinos leading 28-0 into the interval.

Orla McCallion extended the spree within eight minutes of the restart with Winfield-Hill converting for 34-0. Leeds reached 40 as Caitlin Beevers crossed ahead of a fourth score from Moxon to lead 42-0. The rout was rounded off by an Aimee Staveley try (Winfield-Hill conv) before Fran Goldthorp raced in for a brace to complete the 56-0 victory.

Giants Glory Extends Trinity Troubles

Wakefield Trinity Ladies losing run continued as they lost out 40-14 to Huddersfield Giants Women at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. Trinity opened the scoring with Brooke Price crossing inside seven minutes for a 4-0 lead before Isabel Northrop replied for Hudds with Frankie Townend converting for 6-4. Olivia Whitehead crossed to restore the lead for Trinity with Amelia Brown touching down for the Giants with Townend kicking them into a 12-8 advantage. Both sides struck just before the interval with Whitehead claiming her second score which Lisa Taylor converted for 14-12 but Hudds led into the break with Emmi Manning's try which Townend improved for 18-14.

The Giants took control in the second half with two more scores from Brown as she completed her hat-trick with Townend converting for 28-14. Sadly neither club provided further updates so can only assume two further tries both converted by Townend for a 40-14 win.

Covid Crisis For Bulls Gifts City Knights Victory

Bradford Bulls Women's recent troubles continued as a mix of COVID worries and injuries left them unable to field a team against York City Knights Ladies who were awarded a 24-0 win, their second in a row after the St Helens cancellation.

Warriors Extend Winning Streak Against Rovers

Wigan Warriors continued their perfect start to the WSL season with a 36-10 win over Featherstone Rovers Ladies at the Millennium Stadium. Wigan raced into a 20-0 lead inside the opening quarter as Alison Burrows, Leah Darbyshire, Amy Boardman and Anna Mary Davies all crossed with Boardman converting twice. Fev got off the mark with a try from Jess Courtman which Katie Hepworth converted for 20-6 and the Warriors went into the interval with a three score lead as Paige Costello raced over for 24-6.

The hosts suffered a few blows early in the second half with Jasmine Hazell and Andrea Dobson sinbinned either side of a second try from Davies which made it 28-6. Rovers cut the gap once back to full strength with Chloe Billington touching down for 28-10 before scores from Rachel Thompson and Emily Baggaley wrapped up the 36-10 win.

Super Saints Topple Tigers

The round ended with the Twitch pick on Monday night as St Helens Women returned to action with a 38-6 win over Castleford Tigers Women at Odsal Stadium. A rapid start from Saints saw Carrie Roberts open the scoring inside four minutes with a try which Beth Stott converted for a 6-0 lead that became 10-0 with Dani Bush's effort. Emily Rudge crossed to extend the lead before Roberts claimed her second try with Stott converting for a 20-0 lead into the interval.

Rudge complete her brace within five minutes of the restart with Stott converting for 26-0 before Cas finally got off the mark with Hayley Swann crossing for a try which Tara-Jane Stanley converted for 26-6. Saints wrapped up the win with tries from Amy Hardcastle and Chantelle Crowl with Stott converting both for five successes in the 38-6 win.

2021 Super League Round 13 Review Part Two

Round 13 seems to truly be an unlucky one as this is the second review after one tie was played in early June as Wakefield Trinity defeated Leigh Centurions in a 30-20 success - WAK - LEI https://ssentrl.blogspot.com/2021/06/2021-super-league-round-13-part-one.html

There will potentially as many as four reviews of this round as only two games survived this week, two others were postponed due to COVID issues while the final clash was deemed a 24-0 win due to Huddersfield Giants being unable to field a team against Castleford Tigers.

Saints Stroll Past Weakened Warriors

The round resumed on Sunday night with St Helens taking the derby spoils with a 24-6 win over Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The hosts opened the scoring with a Lachlan Coote penalty goal for 2-0 before he converted an effort from Regan Grace to make it 8-0. Coote added another penalty goal for 10-0 before scoring a self-converted try for 16-0. He added another penalty goal for an 18-0 lead and a miserable half for the visiting Warriors got worse with the sinbinning of Kai Pearce-Paul just before the interval.

Wigan were reduced to 11 with the sinbinning of Willie Isa four minutes after the restart with Saints using the advantage to got 24-0 ahead with Mark Percival crossing and Coote converting for a sixth time. The Warriors avoided a nilling with Liam Farrell diving over and Harry Smith converting for 24-6 before the hour mark but it proved to be the final score of the evening as Saints held on for the 24-6 victory.

Robins COVID Woes Halt Catalans Charge

Catalans Dragons remain in top spot despite sitting out in this round due to a postponement as opponents Hull Kingston Rovers continued to deal with the COVID crisis.

Hull FC Hopes Hindered By Red Devils COVID Woes

Alike their city rivals, Hull FC also sat the round out as their opponents Salford Red Devils continued to deal with the COVID crisis.

Rallying Rhinos Ruin Wire Winning Streak

The final action of the round this week saw Leeds Rhinos continue their good form with a 22-16 win over Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The Rhinos struck inside seven minutes as Rob Lui crossed and Rhyse Martin converted for a 6-0 lead that lasted nine minutes before Danny Walker touched down for the hosts and Stefan Ratchford levelled at 6-6 with the boot. Alex Mellor restored the lead for Leeds with a try which Martin improved for 12-6 before he converted an Ash Handley score and added a penalty goal to set up a 20-6 half-time advantage.

Martin extended the lead with another penalty goal five minutes after the restart for 22-6 and the score remained the same until the final ten minutes when Warrington attempted a comeback with a Josh Charnley brace which saw Ratchford add a conversion to cut the gap to 22-16 but Leeds held on doing so with 11 men after the two late sin-binning's of Lui and Liam Sutcliffe.

Giants Gutted As Cas Claim Walkover Win

The action should have come to an end on Tuesday night but recent COVID woes coupled with injuries left Huddersfield Giants unable to field a team and therefore falling foul of the forfeit rule which meant Castleford Tigers were given a 24-0 win.

Super League Round 12 Review

The recent disruption continued into round 12 with Castleford/St Helens cancelled and the Hull derby moved to later in the month.

Tigers Troubles Gift Saints Victory

An early blow to the round schedule came as Castleford Tigers had to forfeit due to injuries and isolations preventing them fielding a team against St Helens. The Saints were awarded a 24-0 win as a result.

Wolves Win Over Weakened Warriors

The first action of the round saw Warrington Wolves cruise to a 40-14 win over Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium. Wire opened the scoring with Connor Wrench crossing and Stefan Ratchford converting before Wigan gifted Jake Mamo a try which Ratchford improved for 12-0. Matt Davis (Ratchford conv) extended the lead further as he crossed for 18-0 before Wigan finally got on the board with Sam Powell diving over and Harry Smith converting for 18-6 into the interval.

Mamo claimed his second try via another gifted pass within three minutes of the restart, Ratchford kicking for 24-6 before Willie Isa and Oliver Gildart crossed to cut the gap to 24-14. Warrington took control from there though with ex-Warrior Jack Hughes and Ben Currie crossing with Ratchford adding a conversion for 34-14. Wigan's woes continued late on with a short drop-out falling for Mamo to complete his hat-trick and Ratchford kicking to round off the 40-14 rout.

Covid Causes Red Devils/Trinity Postponement

The COVID virus continued to dent the schedule with Salford Red Devils hosting of Wakefield Trinity postponed due to the Red Devils having a number of cases which led to many isolations.

Dragons Delight In Hudds Humbling

Thursday's first action came from the John Smith's Stadium as Catalans Dragons extended their hold on top spot with a 50-12 win over Huddersfield Giants. Catalans dominated the first half with a 20-0 lead thanks to tries from Ben Jullien, Mike McMeeken and Samisoni Langi with James Maloney adding a penalty goal and three conversions.

Huddersfield got off the mark on 45 minutes with Ashton Golding crossing and Oliver Russell converting for 20-6 but Catalans resumed control with scores from Ben Garcia, Arthur Mourgue, Sam Tomkins and Maloney with Maloney converting the lot for 44-6. Huddersfield ended the Dragons spree with a Jake Wardle try which Russell converted before Tom Davies crossed for the league leaders late on with Maloney kicking a ninth success with the boot for a 50-12 full-time score-line.

Rampant Rhinos Crush Centurions

The action ended with Leeds Rhinos extending the losing run of Leigh Centurions with a 48-18 win at Emerald Headingley Stadium. Leigh struck first with Matt Russell crossing inside three minutes and Ryan Brierley converting for 6-0. Leeds replied with James Donaldson touching down and Rhyse Martin levelling at 6-6 with the boot. Leeds went ahead with a four minute brace from Jack Broadbent for 14-6 before efforts from Kruise Leeming and Liam Sutcliffe saw Martin convert once a 24-6 lead into the interval.

Leigh cut the gap to 24-12 with Mark Ioane crossing and Brierley converting with 49 minutes played before Jack Broadbent wrapped up his hat-trick and Sam Walters crossed (Martin conv) for 36-12. Leigh stemmed the spree with a self-converted effort from Brierley before Broadbent crossed for a fourth time and Tom Holroyd went over late on with Martin ending the night with six successes in the 48-18 win.

Hull Derby Delayed Due To COVID

Hull Kingston Rovers' wait to return to action continued as their huge derby against Hull FC saw a move to the 15th July due to the Robins' continuing COVID issues.
