A busy Easter period action wise meant a slight delay in coverage which resumes at round eight.
Derby Delight For Dragons Against Toulouse
Catalans Dragons secured an 18-10 victory over Toulouse Olympique XIII in an historic first ever all-French SL clash at Stade Gilbert Brutus. The Dragons opened the scoring inside seven minutes as Fouad Yaha crossed for a 4-0 lead. Joe Chan crossed and Josh Drinkwater converted to move the lead to 10-0 on 26 minutes before a second score from Yaha made it 14-0 after Matt Russell was sinbinned for Toulouse who then cut the gap just before the interval though as Guy Armitage touched down with Chris Hankinson converting for 14-6 into the break.
Eloi Pelissier was sinbinned for Toulouse seconds after the restart and Catalans used the advantage to go 18-6 ahead on 50 minutes with a try from Matt Whitley but the hosts did suffer a blow a few minutes later as Chan was dismissed and the final say on the score-line came from Toulouse as Russell crossed for a 18-10 which is how it ended.
Classy Cas Topple Trinity
Castleford Tigers boosted their form with a comfortable 34-4 win over Wakefield Trinity at the Be Well Support Stadium. The Tigers opened up a 14-0 lead in the first half after a penalty goal inside nine minutes from Gareth O'Brien was followed by tries from Mahe Fonua and Kenny Edwards which O'Brien converted.
Edwards crossed for his second score of the evening within seven minutes of the restart with Paul McShane also touching down and with O'Brien converting twice , the lead became 26-0. Wakefield finally got of the mark with an effort from Mason Lino for 26-4 but Cas wrapped up the win with a Greg Eden try which O'Brien converted before adding a penalty goal late on to complete the 34-4 win.
Leeds Rhinos missed the chance to move clear of the bottom as they drew 20-20 with Huddersfield Giants at Headingley. An early try from Jermaine McGillvary put the Giants 4-0 ahead before Leeds hit back with a Liam Sutcliffe score which Rhyse Martin converted for 6-4. Martin crossed for a try of his own and added a penalty goal to send the hosts into the interval with a 12-4 lead.
Martin extended the lead to 14-4 with a penalty goal on 48 minutes before Hudds cut the gap to 14-10 with a Ricky Leutele try and Tui Lolohea conversion. Leeds restored a two score lead with a Morgan Gannon score which Martin improved for 20-10 but it was a hollow lead as late scores from Luke Yates and Innes Senior and a single Lolohea conversion forced Golden Point Extra time with the score at 20-20. Both sides pushed to seal the win but to no avail as they shared the points in the 20-20 draw.
Wolves Win Against Salford
Warrington Wolves boosted their recent form with a comfortable 32-18 win over Salford Red Devils at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. A rapid start from the Wolves saw Toby King cross twice and Stefan Ratchford converting for 12-0. The lead was extended further by a Matty Ashton score for 16-0 before Salford got off the mark with a Ken Sio try and Marc Sneyd conversion for 16-6 into the interval.
Warrington struck first after the restart with a Joe Philbin try which Ratchford converted for 22-6 but Salford hit back again through Andy Ackers (Sneyd conv) to make it 22-12. The Wolves sealed the win with a second score from Ashton before King wrapped up his hat-trick and Ratchford converted for 32-12. Salford did have the final say on the score-line though as Ryan Brierley touched down and Sneyd converted for a 32-18 final score.
Robins Rejoice In Derby Delight Over FC
Hull Kingston Rovers sealed the bragging rights in a 16-4 derby win over city rivals Hull FC at Sewell Group Craven Park on Good Friday. The Robins struck first in a tight first half as Ryan Hall crossed for 4-0 before FC hit back three minutes later as Josh Renyolds touched down to level at 4-4 which is how it stayed into the interval.
The second half proved to be the Lachlan Coote show as he crossed for a five minute brace before the hour mark and in converting twice completed the 16-4 win.
Saints Seal Derby Delight Against Warriors
The round ended at the Totally Wicked Stadium as St Helens claimed a 22-4 victory over fierce rivals Wigan Warriors. Wigan opened the scoring as Jai Field raced over for a 4-0 lead but they were quickly pegged back by a Tommy Makinson try which levelled at 4-4. Saints went ahead as Jonny Lomax crossed and Makinson converted for 10-4 before adding a penalty goal for 12-4 into the interval.
St Helens controlled the scoring in the second half as Joe Batchelor crossed for 16-4 and Makinson later added a penalty goal for 18-4. Wigan's hopes suffered a huge blow as Sam Powell was sinbinned just before the hour and the win was sealed for the hosts by a Mark Percival try which made it 22-4 and that lead lasted until the end.
