2022 Women's Challenge Cup Round Two

After an amazing opening weekend, the Women's Challenge Cup saw a few surprise results in Round Two.


Super Saints Stroll Past Army 

St Helens Women continued their title defence with a comfortable 88-0 win over Army RL Women at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The hosts raced out of the blocks with Carrie Roberts crossing twice in the opening six minutes with Amy Hardcastle and Naomi Williams also touching down with Zoe Harris converting once for 18-0. Roberts completed het hat-trick ahead of a Paige Travis brace and tries from Tara Jones and Leah Burke which saw Harris convert four times for a huge 46-0 lead into the interval. 

The spree resumed within three minutes of the restart as Travis completed her hat-trick and Roberts crossed for her fourth score of the afternoon with Harris converting both for 58-0. Dani Bush crossed ahead of second efforts from Hardcastle and Williams while Katie Mottershead also touched down with Harris converting twice before crossing for a try brace her self and kicking a tenth success for an 88-0 final score. 

Wolves Women Hold Off Rallying Raiders

Warrington Wolves Women claimed their first win with a 36-16 victory over Barrow Raiders Ladies at Victoria Park. The Wolves struck first with Georgia Westwood crossing for 4-0 but Barrow soon replied with Beth Lindsay touching down with Jodie Litherland converting for a 6-4 lead. Barrow then extended their lead to 10-4 with a Michelle Larkin try but were pegged back by scores from Armani Sharrock, Amy Daniels and Claire Mullaney which Michelle Davis converted for a 20-10 advantage into the interval.

The hosts continued their control with a try from an Unknown scorer before Westwood claimed her second try of the afternoon with a Davis conversion moving the lead to 30-10. Barrow cut the gap with a try from Vanessa Temple which saw Litherland convert for 30-16 but the final say went to the hosts as Ellie Downs touched down with Davis kicking to complete the 36-16 win. 


Rhinos March On After FC Forfeit

Leeds Rhinos Women continued their perfect start with a 48-0 win which was awarded after opponents Hull FC Women  had to forfeit.

The blow for FC came after COVID hit and a number of injuries left them unable to field a team and therefore handing the win to the Rhinos. 

Giants Glory Against Miners Rangers

Huddersfield Giants Women claimed their first win with a comfortable 46-6 success over Leigh Miners Rangers Ladies at Twist Lane. Hudds raced into a 26-0 lead with a first half treble from Amelia Brown and tries from Jess Courtman and Izzy Northrop with Courtman and Frankie Townend adding conversions. 

Brown claimed her fourth try of the afternoon before the hosts got off the mark with no scorers reported for 30-6. The Giants wrapped up the win with a Lauren Roberts try before Courtman and Northrop claimed their second scores with Townend converting twice for a 46-6 final score. 



City Knights Crush Bulls 

York City Knights Ladies made it two wins in a row with a 76-4 thrashing of Bradford Bulls Women at Odsal. York raced into a 28-0 lead inside 20 minutes thanks to tries from Grace Field (2), Olivia Wood, Savannah Andrade with Olivia Whitehead converting four times. The lead became a huge 40-0 into the interval as Wood claimed her second try ahead of efforts from Tamzin Renouf, Georgia Taylor and Georgie Hetherington.

The control resumed within a minute of the restart as Kelsey Gentles crossed before Renouf crossed for her second try to make it 48-0. Bradford finally got off the mark as Jamie-Leigh Scott crossed for 48-4 ahead of Wood completing her hat-trick to bring up the half century for the Knights. York wrapped up the win with scores from Ashleigh Hyde, Katie Langan and two more from Gentles who completed her hat-trick with Whitehead converting three times for the 76-4 final score. 

Davies Trebles As Wigan Demolish Dewsbury

Wigan Warriors Women secured their spot in the last eight after a 62-0 win over Dewsbury Moor Ladies at Robin Park Arena. Wigan opened up a 38-0 lead in the first half as Jade Gregory-Haselden, Ruth Thomas, Holly Speakman, Anna Davies and Gabi Leigh all crossed for tries with Rachel House claiming a brace and Georgia Wilson adding five conversions. 

The control resumed with a try from Freya Hellin which Sinead Doria converted before a Carys Marsh effort was followed by the brace tries for Davies and Leigh with a stunning third from Davies late on securing her hat-trick and Doria converted for the 62-0 final score. 


Raidettes Rout Troubled Tigers

Oulton Raidettes claimed their first win in stunning style with a 40-0 rout of Castleford Tigers Women. Sadly there haven't been any updates released on Twitter scorers wise other than that the hosts had a 24-0 lead and went on to win 40-0. 


Trinity Toppled By Rallying Rovers

Featherstone Rovers Ladies made it two wins in a row with a comfortable 32-0 win over Wakefield Trinity Ladies at the Be Well Support Stadium. A tight first half saw a narrow 12-0 lead for the visitors thanks to tries from Brogan Churm and Amie Backhouse with Jess Mathews and Katie Hepworth converting. 

Chloe Nash extended the lead early in the second half before Hailey Swann and Hepworth crossed for tries which Hepworth converted for 28-0 before Churm claimed her second try to wrap up the 32-0 win.
